‘Wicked: For Good’ is currently revolving at the center of everyone’s attention, and more than the movie, the reason is considered to be its dynamic soundtrack.

The new songs and intriguing lyricism make this soundtrack perfect for the film, as it helps the story move along. The album for the soundtrack starts with “Every Day More Wicked,” which is an extended version of the act 2 opener song “Thank Goodness”. This song shares the perceived wickedness of Elphaba and also adds new verses for Glinda’s goodness. The contrast of good and evil is well complemented by heavy orchestration. The musical arrangement perfectly matches the opening song for the first film ‘Wicked, which was “No One Mourns the Wicked.” With hefty drums and chorus, it sounds more like a powerful march of music.
Each song from the album is carefully crafted to accompany the plot of the story. For example, the first solo from the album is dedicated to Madame Morrible, who was at the centre of the propaganda against Elphaba. Erivo and Grande’s catchy vocals can be felt through the showstopper tracks, namely “Popular” and “The Wizard and I”. The musical references perfectly matched the scenes shown on screen and made the movie appear a little better and tolerable. Ariana Grande took the center stage by singing “Thank Goodness / I Couldn’t Be Happier,” and she showcased Glinda’s amazing soprano. The track “Wonderful” is also quite wonderful, showcasing the duet between Elphaba and the Wizard of Oz, but in this case, it is Glinda-fied or Grande-fied. The chemistry between Erivo and Jonathan Bailey is also well defined by the sensual track “As Long As You’re Mine,” and Bailey and Fiyero managed to keep up with Erivo. “No Good Deed” is perhaps the best song from the album.
Dedicating the main characters, two new songs have been written for Erivo’s Elphaba and Grande’s Glinda. What is even more engaging is that the songs take a fair portion of the movie as well, which is around 2 hours and 17 minutes long. Director Jon M. Chu did a great job in utilizing these songs as an addition to the movie by adding dialogue and additional verses to support the story. Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and composer John Powell are the main men behind this project. The tracks kept their originality intact; it helped to add an emotional layer to the movie. The reimagined album version is definitely taking a lot of the spotlight with Erivo’s “No Place Like Home,” which also shares a fair portion of the “The Wizard of Oz” theme. These intertwined subjects worked like an easter egg and did not fail to captivate the audience. The song also shared a socio-political picture in a metaphorical way with the stories of defiance, borders, and community. The songs have definitely helped to create an emotional trajectory for the film as well as the characters.
Similarly, there is “Girl in the Bubble,” which showcases Glinda’s emotional journey through the story. Each song complements the characters and the story, and the soundtrack worked like a catalyst for the movie. It is safe to say that the soundtrack for ‘Wicked: For Good’ is better than the movie itself.
