A Radio Career for Over 70 Years Earns a Mary McCoy the Guinness World Record

Mary McCoy's tenure turned 72 years and it is not the only celebration for her close ones. The woman also earned the title of being a radio host with the longest career.

An American woman earned the Guinness World Record for having a radio career that lasted more than 71 years. The woman is named Mary McCoy and she has been a radio host for 72 years now. The Texas native lady host is now 85 years old and has been working in the broadcast industry for the past 72 years. Her long tenure is longer than two or even three radio hosts or the broadcast presenters would have combined.

According to the Guinness World Record, she was officially verified on 15th February 2023 with the longest run for 71 years and 357 days in the industry. Her record was having the longest career as a female radio host or DJ. Mary beat the previous record holder by more than three years and then claimed the top spot. Upon asking about any future plans or if she is finally retiring, Mary said that she does not have any plans to retire or give up the job of being a female radio presenter and expressed how much she adores and treasures the job of being a radio host. She has been working in the radio industry and has been a part of several radio programs that it is now tough for the woman to remember any time that she has not been a part of a radio gig. Expressing this, Mary said, “Radio has been my life for as long as I can remember”.

Mary began her career as a radio presenter in 1951 when the young talent participated in a radio station talent event, according to the record-keeping organization. When she was asked about her future plans for this talent show by the authorities, she said she planned to have a career in this industry and wanted to even host her own show. This broadcasting dream of Mary came true unjust four months. At the tender age of just 12 years, Mary began her career as a female radio host. Talking about how her journey started, Mary said, “In August 1951, I had the pleasure of becoming a radio presenter/DJ, and although the radio station has changed ownership (KIKR and now KSTAR), I have maintained this job”.

Now the 85-year-old female radio broadcaster is still in business and is maintaining her job as a radio host. On K-Star Country, people can tune in for her two-hour Country Classics show that she hosts six days a week.
