Dynamic hip-hop artist Cholly J is creating major buzz among the fans with his brand new banger ‘Gotta Get It’ which also features Cali Babiii and Raddy Rich. Masterfully crafted, this music project offers a creative amalgamation of Hip Hop, Dancehall, Afrobeat, and Reggaeton music which sounds engaging and thought-provoking as well. J is also the owner of MAT INC STUDIO and currently pushing his music career with a multifaceted approach and original creations. Let’s find out more from him.
DMR: Congratulations on the release of ‘Gotta Get It’! How was the experience of making this collaborative project?
Cholly J: It was Fun and interesting making this song, it was a challenge blending the styles of music in my flavor of what hip hop /afrobeat/dancehall reggae ton should sound like, then to add the Jamaican vibe like in the hook was the icing on the cake, as they would say.
DMR: Tell us more about this music project, its concept, and the creative process.
Cholly J: I wrote the Hook and I was in my studio at home and was thinking about what do everyday people have in common and it hit me we all have to strive and hustle everyday to make a way in any category in life from study/workout/learning/working/ anything of importants if your life the only was its going to happen you gotta go get it and to win at anything you must live it, so I thought that these would motavate people and the vibe is catchy and Cali Babiii Lyrics sealed the deal because he spoke the true of why gotta get it is so important espeacially with how everything is today, Its must WE GOTTA GET IT!
DMR: How did you come up with the idea of mixing hip-hop with dancehall and afro?
Cholly J: I listened to all 4 genres of music and took pieces of things that vibe to me and did what Cholly J do and that is create I don’t rush my music I’m in to detail and the feel of the music so it has to resin with me spiritually then I’m like okay, same with the flow and attitude of the song and message I’m always looking for the perfect marriage of music and flow with a great message if called for.
DMR: What kind of benefits you are having after establishing MAT INC STUDIO?
Cholly J: MAT stand for Mackin Ass Tracks and there I can work anytime I get ready I can create record, mix, score, its my second home i have choice gear i use like the other major studio from Mic’s to Analog gear I built it to do projects and service SHWCD RECORD that the label.
DMR: What are your views on the new-age hip-hop industry?
Cholly J: Its different people rely more on computers to create there sound and a lot of music is copied in a way where the consumer can get the same vibe from different artist because they all are chasing the bag and that’s cool yet we live in a time where music money should be plentiful for all artist so they can make a living of there work its a lot still that goes into the craft of making great music so as new age hip hop evolves the money needs to evolve with it and i think we will hear a variety of different music and the expression of life again.
DMR: You are an artist, producer, and executive as well. How do you manage everything together?
Cholly J: I have to schedule things out, I work on myself to stay focused and disciplined with my workflow, and never mix the two. Creating is right brain, and business is left brain.
DMR: What tips would you like to give to emerging music artists in the industry?
Cholly J: Be original and do it from the heart, and make it great artistry is of high value, so be that.
DMR: Just like Cali Babiii and Raddy Rich, whom would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Cholly J: I will work with both in the future. Cali Babiii is my artist, and Raddy Rich is very talented, so yes, there will be more work from Cholly J and Cali Babiii & Raddy Rich.
DMR: Can we expect an upcoming music project by the end of this year?
Cholly J: Yes, I have a few projects in the works with a few artists.
DMR: Can you name some of your creative influences who inspired you to become a versatile rapper?
Cholly J: I have an arsenal of artists & producers that inspire me, and it keeps my artistry fun and exciting, E40, Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, to name a few. It’s a lot. Cholly J is not in a Box. I keep it Lit.
DMR: Would you like to experiment with other music genres in the coming days?
Cholly J: Yes, I’m thinking of doing some things like David Guetta EDM / Pop Music to see where that can go, just got my eye open for that right voice to make it work over my Music and sounds I have written.
