Though the fans wanted to see Harry Styles as Elvis in the upcoming Elvis Presley Biopic, the Aussie director reveals the real reason why he did not select him.

Harry Styles is one of the most popular musicians of this generation. He just released his third studio album, ‘Harry’s House’ which topped the Billboard 200 chart. The lead single from the album, ‘As It Was’ also debuted at the number spot on Billboard Global 200 chart. So, it’s natural that his fans and a massive number of music lovers across the world thought he would be playing the character of Elvis Presley in the upcoming biopic. And the director of the movie Baz Luhrmann has recently released why he chose Austin Butler over Harry Styles.

The Australian director has explained that if he had chosen Styles to play the role of Elvis Presley, people would not have been able to see past his real identity. He called him an extremely talented actor and he would like to work on some other project in the future. He revealed, ‘The real issue with Harry is, he’s Harry Styles. He’s already an icon.’ He feared that the viewers will not be able to see him as Elvis.

He also disclosed that he took auditions of neither Styles nor Butler, who is playing Elvis in the movie. He clarified that he does rich workshops and Butler was just ‘born to play the King of Rock n’ Roll.’ He further added, ‘The thing about Aust was that he will tell you himself, I didn’t pick him, it’s as if he was drawn like the role drew them in because he was almost born to play it.’

The director has found various similarities between Butler and Elvis like they both lost their mother at the same age. The movie took a big toll on the artist’s body and he was even hospitalized after the filming wrapped in March 2021. He was bedridden for a week because of the illness. ‘Elvis’ will be released in theaters on June 24th, 2022.

The British singer did not miss out much with the role as he is currently topping charts everywhere with his latest album and its lead single. He has recently starred in the 2022 psychological film, ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ directed by his now partner Olivia Wilde.
