Queen Majeeda Is Back With Her Latest Poetry Album ‘Wedding Invitation’

Queen Majeeda is a celebrated poet and recording artist and her latest release proves that she is here for the long run. After making waves with her previous release, her newest Wedding Invitationis a beautiful collection of poems that seems to be the artist’s most intimate project yet. A magnificent blend of heart-touching poetry, soothing music, and dramatic sound effects, this album will be a memorable one after just one listen. Comprising 12 tracks in total, the newest album is available on Spotify for the audience to listen to. We recently had the opportunity to sit and have a conversation with Majeeda so let’s see what we talked about.

Queen Majeeda

DMR: Welcome to Daily Music Roll. First, let me congratulate you on the successful release of the ‘Wedding Invitation’. How are you feeling?

Queen Majeeda: Thank you and thanks for having me! I’m feeling exuberant. I’m happy about this release. The poems and the music with the sound effects, I just love how the album turned out, if I may say so myself. Hahahaha.

DMR: The response to your newest release has been overwhelming. Did you think you would be able to touch people’s hearts with your poetry like this?

Queen Majeeda: I was definitely hoping I would be able to touch people’s hearts like that. Based on feedback, I think what people love about this album is the uniqueness of it. I think it’s a special project, not just the poems but based on what 16 Bars Multimedia did with it in terms of music and dramatic sound effects.

DMR: You said it was the pandemic that inspired you to write and record this album. What was it about the pandemic or the lockdown that served as the main inspiration behind this?

Queen Majeeda: The pandemic was a profound time for all of us. Lockdown felt so unreal. We have never experienced anything like this before. Something quite unusual about what was happening drove me to write. I was drawn to Matthew 24 and 25 in those times. I felt almost compelled to write poems bearing the theme of the great wedding feast we read about in Scripture. As a result, Wedding Invitation came about. It’s an invitation to all humanity.

DMR: Do you think with modernism and AI, this world needs more poetry and music to maintain its creativity and emotional expressiveness?

Queen Majeeda: Oh most definitely! Poetry and music are so significant to our state of emotional being. We are at a point in Earth’s history where many of us have lost touch with ourselves and each other. Everything is so fast-paced. We don’t stop to smell the roses, to ponder the beauty of anything anymore because we are too busy. The world needs poetry because it cannot survive without it. It cannot survive without poetry because it was created by the spoken word. “In the beginning was the Word….” Without the Word nothing was created. The things we enjoy in nature is because the Creator spoke a word and brought them into existence. He simply said, ‘Let there be…” and there was. That’s poetry! That’s the original Spoken Word.

AI may be able to produce written material, but it will never have the special touch of a human being with emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is what makes us unique – what makes us able to connect with each other and feel deeply. Something AI will never be able to do regardless of the advancement of technology.

DMR: How did this musical journey of yours start?

Queen Majeeda: This musical journey of mine started when I began writing as a teenager. After graduating high school, I compiled a few poems that I had written specifically for my debut album, Conscious. From there, more doors to performing and recording started opening for me as I started meeting people from all areas in the music business.

DMR: Which artists or poets served as the biggest musical inspiration behind your journey?

Queen Majeeda: Musically, the biggest inspiration behind my journey in terms of artists or poets would be Bob Marley and Mutabaruka.

DMR: If you were not a poet or a recording artist, which profession do you think you would have chosen?

Queen Majeeda: I would have chosen journalism and teaching. Journalism because I am heavily inspired by current affairs and teaching because I feel like that’s what I do through poetry.

DMR: Which modern artists or poets do you want to collaborate with? Do you have any specific ones in mind?

Queen Majeeda: I would love to collaborate with Lauren Daigle or Victory Boyd. I love the rootsy sound of their music. It would be cool to collaborate with J. Ivy too. His poem Fire is on repeat sometimes as I retwist my hair in the bathroom. Hahahaha.

DMR: As an artist, what do you think is the most important step, the writing and expressing the emotions or recording it?

Queen Majeeda:  For me it’s the writing and expressing the emotions. Writing has to come first before the recording. The emotions have to be there in the recording also.

DMR: What do you think is your career-defining moment?

Queen Majeeda: I have had a few in the past, but I want to say the release of this album Wedding Invitation has become another career-defining moment for me. I love the opportunities that are being created as a result of the release of this album. I am reaching a much wider audience with this new album.

DMR: What is the next plan? What can we expect from you for your next project?

Queen Majeeda: My next project is a single on climate change to be released this summer. I want to contribute to the climate change discussion through that poem. I care deeply about our environment and addressed the issue of global warming on my first album. I am looking forward to this release on climate change in the summer. I am also compiling poems for a book that I hope to have published later this year.

DMR: What do you want to say to your fans?

Queen Majeeda: Thank you for your support. I look forward to connecting with you in person as I take Wedding Invitation on the road.
