Anita Carter blends poetry and purpose in Collected Hearts, Middle Man, and Bourgeois Girl. Thoughtful lyrics and rich melodies in her songs explore power and identity.
Music always describes inner feelings in a way that sometimes words fail. This is why I am always gravitating toward records that are story-driven and have something to convey. One such artist is Anita Carter, and she has recently impressed me with new releases. The artist approaches songwriting with an intention of conveying her inner feelings, and that is what catches the attention of her audience the first time. Her work carries the weight of ideas, yet the music stays inviting. I especially like how her music asks you questions and forces you to take a pause and really think. That is what music is about. It makes you reflect, and that is exactly what her three new songs, ‘Collected Hearts – Running Version‘, ‘Middle Man‘, and ‘Bourgeois Girl‘ do.
Her music leans into gentle rock and folk textures. This matches perfectly with her vocals that carry warmth. It is contradictory, but that is what makes the song so good to listen to. Furthermore, I like how the song treats relationships as moments that pass yet still leave marks behind. ‘Middle Man’ shifts the focus toward sharper commentary. Lastly, ‘Bourgeois Girl’ moves into a more stylized space. The jazz influence gives the track a playful elegance. The balance between critique and melody in some of her work impresses me further. Listen to these tracks on Spotify and Apple Music, along with some of her previously released songs like ‘United States, Pt. 2 – Radio Edit’, ‘Collected Hearts’, ‘Civil War’, ‘War’, etc. For regular updates, follow her on Facebook and Instagram.
