Harry Styles dropped the music video of his latest song, named ‘‘American Girls’. The lyrics of the track depict his desires in life, which are quite captivating.
In the visuals, it came to see that the One Direction artist is directing and shooting scenes with stunt double for the action-packed project. During an interview, the artist stated, ‘It’s actually quite a lonely song in a lot of ways’. He even said that he got the inspiration for making the video after watching his ‘three closest friends get married’.
The artist even stated ‘Actually seeing them trust…and risk something to find something truly fulfilling in a way that isn’t as shiny and, on paper, as exciting as watching them get married… I was like, I’m single, so I’m having all the fun, and ‘American Girls’ is actually about watching them get married, and there just is a magic when you find the right person that you want to be with. I think watching them do that and seeing that it doesn’t come without any uncertainty, it doesn’t come without any risk’.
As he saw his friends tying the knots, it made him think about his own life. He even said, ‘It’s like being truly vulnerable with someone, sharing a life with someone like that, having the time to stop and assess all of it and really look at my life from a bird’s eye view and go like, ‘What do I actually want in my life?’ I have all these things around me all the time. It’s hard to pull those things in without making space for them’.
Harry continued by saying ‘So if I stop everything, then I get to decide what I want to bring back in. What are the things that I really want in my life? If you’re touring all the time and you’re doing this all the time, and all these things, there’s no space to really choose’. This song seems lonely, but it is also ‘a real honest conversation’ that he had with himself after a long time. He also said, ‘I want to be fulfilled, and I want to be in great relationships with people, I want to have great friendships with people, I want a family. I want these things’.
After this, he even said, ‘It just allowed me to go like, ‘OK, what do I have to do to create space to allow these things to happen? I can’t just expect them to just happen to me’. Apart from these, he even stated a few things that made it clear what kind of a partner he wants in his life. Harry said ‘That’s part of why you choose that person is because they hold you accountable to the person that they know you want to be. I think accepting flaws and stuff, yes, having understanding is wonderful, but you know I want to be better than that, so when you challenge me on something, it’s a gift to me actually’.
