Passenger is one of those music artists who can extend the sob-hours with his highly emotionally driven songs, and this time, he returns to the industry with a brand-new LP project called ‘Wild Love’. While the album is scheduled to be released soon on November 6, the artist builds the premise for the grand release with a new single, “It Was Gonna Be You,” which was released with an accompanying music video. The song has instantly become a favorite among fans, with Passenger’s signature style that includes deeply emotional lyricism and expressive singing.

“It Was Gonna Be You” offers a very familiar essence of the globally hit song by the artist, ‘Let Her Go,’ with its musical composition and lyrical approach. A lot of fans have already called this song ‘Let Her Go 2’ as if it is the continuation of the story. This new song offers the perfect preview of the upcoming album, and it is already building much anticipation. However, it stands out with an emotional subject matter of accepting the fact that relationships are not meant to last forever. This emotional clarity offers a similar taste of ‘Let Her Go,’ which literally talks about the same pattern.

Now, the biggest question is “does it sound the same?”Well, at many points it appears to be almost similar but not completely, due to the familiar Americana guitar style. “But do we love it?” Duh! The positive responses from the fans and their support prove that they love it, and there are many reasons for it. First of all, if Passenger is copying, he is copying his own songs, and there is no infringement involved in this. It is a creative and ethical track. Secondly, the artist possesses very well-seasoned songwriting skills, and his style of storytelling makes each song enjoyable and emotionally engaging.  “It Was Gonna Be You” offers the perfect example of the artist’s creative psyche and pattern.

Mike Rosenberg, better known as Passenger, is an Ivor Novello-winning songwriter who has crafted many multi-Platinum and chart-topping projects. His songs are often inspired by real-life stories and personal reflection, which listeners can easily relate to. With simple lyricism and themes like love, yearning, and acceptance, his musical works feel like emotional validation and healing. The upcoming album project ‘Wild Love’ is inspired by his own life, as he is a husband and a father now. With maturity in his personal life and relationship, the reflection is visible through his musical creation as well.

Talking about “It Was Gonna Be You”, the singer-songwriter said, “I wrote it on holiday last year and it was one of those songs that came incredibly quickly and naturally. Once I had the melody and idea of what it was about the rest of it just tumbled out of me in a matter of hours. It’s a song about a relationship coming to an end and the hole that it leaves. It’s about not being with someone that you thought you were gonna be with forever, about moving on and understanding that although it’s painful in the moment that maybe it wasn’t right for you anymore”.

Rosenberg not only extends his musical journey, but he has also recently made a musical adaptation of ‘The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry’, a beautiful novel by Rachel Joyce. Passenger is also playing a hometown exclusive, which is taking place at Hove Park, Brighton. It is safe to say it is a new era in Passenger’s prolific musical journey.
