Bollywood romance would have been incomplete without the magical voice of Alka Yagnik, who enriched the industry with some of the best Indian songs. Not only Hindi, but the legendary playback singer has sung in many languages, embracing the lingual diversity of India. After years of musical contributions, the singer has finally recognized by the Government of India through the prestigious Padma Bhushan.
The humble singer shared her gratitude through social media and made sure to mention everyone from her career who helped to develop it to its supreme form. Alka wrote on Instagram, “I am deeply grateful to the Government of India for bestowing upon me the Padma Bhushan. After decades in the film and music industry, this honour feels both humbling and deeply emotional.”

The announcement for the recipients of the Padma Awards was published on January 25, and the list included actor R. Madhavan, Mammootty, and advertising legend Piyush Pandey, along with Alka Yagnik. There are posthumously recognized recipients as well, since late actors Dharmendra and Satish Shah will be honored with Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri, respectively. This year’s announcement shows that the Indian Government is quite concerned about the late legends as well.
