Lizzo Had A ‘Soul-Crushing’ Experience After Seeing the Poor Album Sales

Lizzo has accepted the truth, even if it hurts that her new album is not a hit. She talked about her newly released album on the podcast ‘About Damn Time’ with ‘Swiftologist’, which was released on 28^th June. Lizzo’s latest album, ‘Bitch’ was released on 5^th June. For weeks before, she started promoting her album and tried to gain as much attention as possible from her fans. However, the result isn’t satisfying as she expected before. Even now, the records fell short of expectation.

While talking about the album, Lizzo said ‘It dropped, and I was like, ‘Oh, OK, this isn’t what I thought it would be. I didn’t think it would be crazy, but I also didn’t think it would be this. There was, like, 24 hours of my life where I based my success and my worth on a number, and I think that was soul-crushing’.

Right after the album release, the result wasn’t satisfying at all. Somehow, the songs from the album couldn’t attract the audience in the right manner. And that is quite heartbreaking for the artist. Lizzo always tries to amaze audiences with her refreshing pieces of music. However, this time it didn’t work in the right manner.

For this specific album, Lizzo put in a lot of effort. She even said that she ‘prayed’ and ‘meditated’ for the album launch. However, after seeing the numbers, she understood that she should judge ‘my success or my impact on numbers’. ‘It’s soul-crushing’ if someone does so. That is why she is now trying to avoid such thoughts. Right after that, she said, ‘I had to reframe and be like, ‘But aren’t you proud of yourself?’. After that, she also said, ‘Yeah, I actually am proud of myself.’ Aren’t you excited to sing these songs? Aren’t you glad they’re out?’ Yeah’.

At first, Lizzo took the sales numbers ‘to heart really, really, heavily’. She is quite happy with her new music. And it is absolutely normal that people didn’t perceive the concept of the album like her. But it’s okay, and there is no need to disappoint this much. She can definitely work more consciously for her next album and then see how it would turn out.

Lizzo stated ‘I was really stressed and I was really sad for a few days, because I just was like, ‘Wait a minute. This is some of my best stuff. I want people to find it’. Now she has to ‘come to terms with the fact’ and understand that her ‘connection, musically, with the world is different’. This newly released album was her fifth studio album. She started gaining more recognition and became a staple on the radio by achieving No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 with the track ‘Truth Hurts’. Her fans are expecting that her next album will be better than this one.
