BLACKPINK has a global fanbase. The girl group reached the pinnacle of their success with the support of their global fan base. However, when it came to the 10th anniversary event of the group, it sparked a huge backlash among the fans instead of getting them excited, as the event fueled much frustration among them with limited invitations and highly restrictive eligibility rules.

On Thursday, the agency for the K-pop girl group shared an official notice about the anniversary event through a fan platform known as Weverse. The post shared gratitude for the fans who showed their immense support for the group in the past decade. The anniversary event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, which also marks 10 years after the group’s official debut in the industry.

While the exact time and venue were not revealed in the official post, it mentioned that only selected fans and attendees will get the details personally about the event, keeping it a secret from all. What made the fans angry and frustrated was the number of attendees, which was limited to only 40 people. After supporting the group through numerous sold-out concerts and stadium tours for 10 years, this is not something that fans expected or considered a fair move towards them.

Limited invitation of 40 people quickly embarked on an online backlash and criticism, and fans started questioning the group as well as the agency for this unfair invitation process. They are also questioning why Weverse was chosen as a conducting platform, as it has very little activity over the past year. It is a problematic decision as the eligibility does not consider all the fans, but only the individuals who have purchased the membership on the Weverse platform by July can apply for the invitation.

BLACKPINK has not broadcast a single live show or group performance on Weverse since 2024, and they have rarely made any posts in 2025. Many fans discontinued their membership due to the lack of engagement. Previously, the platform opened its membership enrollment to help fans get tickets for the group’s world tour, but the same policy is not applied to the anniversary event. So, does it all come down to a profitable business-oriented relation with fans?

The backlash further increased with the official announcement claiming that BLACKPINK members would be present based on their respective schedules, which means there could be the absence of one or two members from the four female artists. This made fans more frustrated as they wanted to see BLACKPINK as a whole team rather than solo performers.

The group rose to fame after its debut in 2016, and now, every member has a solo music career. Such significant success would not have been possible without the support of 40 selected fans from Weverse.
