What started as a playful YouTube joke has now turned into one of K-pop’s most unexpected new unit projects. Hyorisu, bringing together Girls’ Generation members Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung, is stepping out from the screen and into the spotlight with its official debut.
The trio first came together through Hyoyeon’s personal YouTube channel, Hyo’s Level Up, where they appeared in the fan-favorite web series “Fake Kim Hyoyeon.” What began as a humorous competition quickly became a hit with longtime fans. Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung jokingly battled for positions within an imaginary group, including main vocalist, main dancer, and center. Their natural chemistry and playful personalities made the series particularly entertaining, giving fans a chance to see a more relaxed side of three artists who have spent nearly two decades performing together.

The single takes an equally playful approach to its sound, mixing contemporary production with touches of retro charm. ‘Skibidi’ opens with energetic house rhythms before shifting into a heavier hip-hop section. Exotic Arabian string samples add another layer to the arrangement, while the song’s confident message centres on following your own direction rather than being defined by expectations within the industry. The unexpected genre changes give the track a lively edge and allow the three performers to explore a sound that feels distinctly different from their work as Girls’ Generation.
On the other side of the release, ‘LowkeyIn Love’ leans into bright dance-pop. Colourful brass arrangements and a buoyant groove, along with an instantly catchy melody, create a lighter atmosphere that plays naturally into Hyorisu’s cheerful chemistry. Together, the two songs show how much room the trio has to experiment when they step outside the familiar framework of their main group.

Hyorisu gave fans an early taste of the project on Aug. 22 at the 2026 CassCool Festival at Seoul Land in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province. Performing both songs before their official release, the trio brought strong vocal harmonies and energetic choreography to the stage, reminding audiences that behind the jokes and spontaneous concept are three seasoned performers with years of experience between them.
With Hyorisu, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung have found a refreshing space to have fun, experiment, and embrace a more carefree side of their artistry. What began as an internet gag has grown into a genuine musical moment, proving that some of K-pop’s most enjoyable ideas can come from simply letting familiar faces have a little fun together.
