Slipknot has always known exactly how to turn that chaos into something explosive and they proved it once again! The band returns to that familiar territory with ‘Arsenal’. It is a ferocious new single that draws heavily from the raw intensity of its earliest work while showcasing the sheer force of its current lineup.

At the center of the track is Corey Taylor, whose vocals move between furious screams and commanding chants as the rest of the band builds an increasingly volatile wall of sound around him. Jim Root and Mick Thomson deliver the song’s aggressive guitar attack, while percussionists Clown and Tortilla Man join drummer Eloy Casagrande in creating the kind of thunderous rhythmic assault that has long been central to Slipknot’s identity. The track also features prominent turntablism and keyboards. This adds further layers to its already dense production.

However, there is some uncertainty surrounding who is responsible for the scratching. Following the departure of longtime DJ Sid Wilson and the appearance of a new Slipknot press photo featuring only eight members, the exact source of those elements is still unclear. The band had also been touring with an unidentified musician who contributed samples and turntablism on the road.

The new track reaches back toward the unrestrained fury that helped define Slipknot’s early years. Taylor delivers the line, “I got a lot to fuckin’ say/And if you didn’t listen, you didn’t hear me anyway.” His repeated “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go” becomes a rallying cry as the guitars, percussion, and electronic elements erupt around him. The result is a track that sounds deliberately chaotic while remaining firmly rooted in the band’s signature attack. That sense of disorder carries into the accompanying music video as well. It is directed by M. Shawn Crahan, better known as Slipknot’s Clown. Actor Jackson White takes the lead as the visual descends into a surrealistic and Felliniesque nightmare populated by red and white ghosts and a collection of unsettling creatures. The imagery further adds a strange theatrical dimension to the track.

‘Arsenal’ arrives four years after Slipknot’s most recent album, ‘The End, So Far’. It was released in 2022. The band has not announced another album or additional release plans alongside the single, which leaves the future direction of this new chapter open. Still, there are signs that more music could emerge. Crahan previously spoke with Rolling Stone about his other project, ‘Look Outside Your Window’, featuring Taylor, Root and Wilson. He revealed that he was in the middle of writing sessions for a new album.

The timing of ‘Arsenal’ is also notable, arriving less than a month after Slipknot announced its split from Wilson. “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson,” the band posted in a since-deleted social media statement on August 14. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
