Jessica Galan, the talented pop music artist, has recently approached her audiences with the latest track, ‘In Control’. The prolific artist has grown up surrounded by music and has now found her passion in making songs. It is her unique approach that is helping her to reach out to a larger number of audiences. Her refreshing perspective is another element that is leading her to gain attention. Recently, we got the chance to have a chat with this artist. This is how it went-
DMR: Hello, Jessica Galan. Congratulations on your latest release, ‘In Control’. How would you like to describe this music creation?
Jessica: Hello and thank you. “In Control” is an original music creation that I wrote, recorded, produced and brought into the world. It’s an artistic experience from the music itself to the visual concept, styling, imagery, and performance aesthetic. Every element reflects my vision as an independent artist.
DMR: What has inspired you to make this song?
Jessica: “In Control” is a creation inspired by my life experiences and observations. I was fortunate to be raised in a loving family that taught me the importance of love, patience, discipline, hard work, and being a helpful and kind person to others.
One of the most important lessons I learned growing up was to cheer for other people and genuinely be happy for their accomplishments. Whenever I achieved something, no matter how big or small, my family celebrated with me and encouraged me to be proud of myself.
However, my experiences in life have taught me that this is not always the case out in the world. I have observed that some people struggle to celebrate the good qualities, accomplishments, or good fortune of others. My experiences and observations of this have inspired me to create “In Control.”
I am very proud of this creation because it is meant to motivate listeners to keep pushing forward, remain confident in themselves, and continue pursuing their goals even when they encounter negativity, jealousy, or a lack of support from others.
DMR: How was your journey of making this track?
Jessica: I spent several weeks sitting in my recording studio every day, experimenting with different sounds and listening for something that inspired me. When I heard the guitar parts for this song, I instinctively sang the hook to “In Control.” From there, everything seemed to flow out of me naturally, including the rap section. I had never rapped in a song before, so that was a fun and completely natural experience for me.
DMR: What encouraged you to write such strong lyrics?
Jessica: I had actually written another song before “In Control” called “Livin’ My Life.” The lyrics are very strong—so strong that, at first, I didn’t want to release it. I felt like I needed to create something with softer lyrics, and that’s when “In Control” came about.
Both songs explore the experience of people talking behind the backs of exceptional individuals because of jealousy and envy. “In Control” approaches the subject in a much softer way, though. LOL.
DMR: Working as an independent artist requires a lot of effort. How did you manage doing everything on your own?
Jessica: Yes, it does. It has taken me several years of patience, love, discipline, keeping my word, and pushing through no matter what to get to where I am today. And I’m not stopping! If anything, I feel stronger now than I ever have. LOL. 💪
DMR: Did you face any difficulties making this track?
Jessica: Yes. I tend to face the typical challenges that come with creating music. Some are technical, while others require me to think carefully about how a song might be received and how it could affect the listener. I always take those things into consideration. Sometimes I probably overthink, but my heart is always in the right place. If I can take a challenge or something negative and turn it into something encouraging and positive, then I feel like I’ve done my job.
DMR: Apart from your grandfather, Nando Galan, who has inspired you to become a music artist?
Jessica: My father, Jonny Galan, was a very influential and inspiring figure in my life growing up. He is a painter and pianist, as well as the lead singer of his band, and he and I spent a great deal of my childhood having conversations about music. Many of the things he taught me and shared with me have stayed with me throughout my life.
The first song he ever taught me to play on the piano was “Yesterday” by The Beatles, and that is definitely a core memory for me.
Some of the music artists who have inspired me throughout the years include Selena Quintanilla and Michael Jackson, among many others.
DMR: Other than pop, what other genres would you like to try in your next songs?
Jessica: Well, pop music is the genre I work with the most and plan to continue. I’ve already experimented with R&B, merengue, children’s music, and instrumental music, and I definitely want to continue exploring different genres. Every genre presents its own unique challenges and new sources of excitement.
I would love to experiment with disco and jazz music for my next songs. Let’s see.
DMR: Are you preparing for your next music project?
Jessica: I feel that I am always preparing for my next music project. My mind never stops.
DMR: When are you going to release your next song?
Jessica: I don’t have an exact date yet, but it will either be by the end of this year or early next year.
DMR: Are you planning any live performances?
Jessica: I would love to do more live performances. For now, I’m focusing on building my repertoire, and then I’ll start planning my live performances in the very near future. I’m so eager to get out there and perform! LOL
DMR: Any message you would like to give to your listeners?
Jessica: The most important message I would like to give my listeners is to never stop dreaming. No matter how challenging things may become, keep doing the things that set you free, and keep dreaming. For me, music has always served as a facilitator for my dreams, and I hope that my music can do the same for others.
