Drake is keeping himself away from the competition at the 2027 Grammys. The rapper is not going to submit his three albums for the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony.
This decision wasn’t entirely unexpected. In the track, ‘Make Them Know’, from the album ‘Iceman’, he ended the song with ‘This album, I’m never submittin’ it’. Thus, he already dropped hint about not submitting his albums for the Grammy 2027. This way, he is trying to make sure that he is actively choosing not to participate in the upcoming Grammy Awards. This decision has derived from the ongoing litigation between the artist and Kendrick Lamar. It all started with a confrontation with Lamar.
Drake has filed a lawsuit related to UMG and Lamar’s song ‘Not Like Us’. he accused the record label of promoting a song that contains defamatory elements. At the beginning, Drake’s lawsuit was rejected by a federal judge. However, after that, the rapper filed an appeal and is scheduled to participate in the debate in December. Due to the ongoing fight, Drake is not going to compete in the Grammy. in the year, 2025, the song ‘Not Like Us’ won 5 Grammy Awards at the ceremony. And this became one of the most notable milestones of the confrontation between the rappers.

Previously, Drake has done similar things like this. he didn’t submit his song ‘More Life’ to the 2018 Grammy Awards. After that, in 2022, he withdrew ‘Certified Lover Boy’, and the following year, he didn’t submit ‘Honestly, Nevermind’. Thus, it is quite common behavior for the artist that he doesn’t compete for awards when circumstances don’t go according to his choice. In 2024, his album with 21 Savage, ‘Her Loss’, was submitted in the category ‘Best Rap Album’. But he lost to ‘Michael’ by Killer Mike.
For the year 2027, not only Drake but also other big artists didn’t submit their songs and albums. BTS has confirmed that they will not register their works for the 2027 Grammys. Along with that, Blackpink and Stray Kids are also missing from the participants’ list. As such big names from the pop and rap categories of the Grammys have gone, their absence is becoming even more noticeable. BTS have been nominated many times, but they haven’t won any Grammys until now.
Drake is competing in the 2027 Grammys, but he is still one of the significant artists in the music industry. With this move, he has shown that getting recognized on award shows is not his only priority in his career.
