For one unforgettable week in October, Lima turned into a city-sized birthday celebration for BTS star Jimin. As the group performed in Peru for the first time, with three concerts at Estadio San Marcos on October 7, 9, and 10, local ARMY prepared a series of tributes ahead of his 31st birthday on October 13. From a metro train decorated with his photographs to billboards, LED trucks, drones, and thousands of fans singing in two languages. The celebrations made sure Jimin knew how much he meant to them.
The festivities began on October 7 with the launch of ‘A Train of Love for Jimin’, a project organized by the fanbase JIMIN PERÚ 13 in partnership with Lima Metro operator Línea 1. Covered in Jimin’s photographs and birthday messages, the train also features Chimmy, his BT21 character, inside the cab. Running across all 26 stations of Line 1, the train travels 34.6 kilometers from Villa El Salvador to Bayóvar in San Juan de Lurigancho. It brought the birthday tribute directly into the daily lives of Lima commuters. The fanbase has yet to announce how long the train will remain decorated.
BTS arrived in Lima on October 5 after performing in Bogotá as part of the ‘Arirang’ world tour. During the opening concert, Jimin addressed the audience in Spanish. He promised to make the long-awaited visit memorable. He delivered on that promise throughout the three-night run, making the most of the 360-degree stage and moving along the walkways to connect with fans. On October 9, he performed ‘Butter’ wearing a white chullo, a traditional knitted Andean hat, while all seven members wore Peruvian ponchos and chullos during the final show.
The birthday surprises continued inside the stadium. On October 9, fans slipped a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ into ‘We are Bulletproof: the Eternal’, prompting Jimin to respond with a grateful “gracias”. The following night, thousands of voices came together to sing ‘Feliz cumpleaños’ during the closing speeches. Visibly moved, Jimin thanked the crowd with “Muchas gracias” before sharing the heartfelt words, “Voy a guardarlos en mi corazón”, meaning “I will keep you in my heart.”
Peruvian and Korean fanbases also organized an extensive citywide campaign. Fans brought personalized Japanese hand fans featuring their favorite Jimin photographs, raised heart cards and birthday banners, and arranged LED advertisements, streetlight banners, and a large billboard near the stadium. Videos also appeared at four Lima landmarks, while LED trucks carried the celebrations through the streets.
With BTS now in Santiago, Lima’s tribute continues to shine through the decorated metro train, which has no announced end date. As “Jimtober” reaches its highlight, Peru’s ARMY have turned Jimin’s birthday into a celebration that extends far beyond the stadium. It left the city with a message of love he promised to keep in his heart.
