Singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson is one of the pop sensations who became massively popular with her musical contributions. Despite having a successful career and a beautiful marriage, the singer had to part ways with her husband Brandon Blackstock, the son of Narvel Blackstock. Before their split, the power couple had spent 7 years together as married and before that, they had been dating each other for a long time. May 2006: The First Meet
Clarkson and Blackstock first met each other at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Talking about Brandon, Kelly once said in an interview, “This guy walks by, making everybody laugh. I said, ‘I’m gonna end up with him. I know it.'” Blackstock was married to his then-wife Melissa back then but they got separated in 2012, right after which he could engage with Kelly legally.
February 5, 2012: The Couple at Super Bowl
Until Blackstock’s separation from his wife, Clarkson and he did not date officially but it sparked a moment when they met each other at Super Bowl 2012, after many years. Kelly put some extra effort to win Blackstock’s heart as she said, “I was so nervous because it wasn’t that I didn’t want to suck for the millions of people watching, I didn’t want to suck because I was trying to impress a guy.” She was also the first who confess liking him as the singer said to him ‘I really dig you,’ and that was the beginning of their sweet relationship.
February 11, 2012: The First Date
The first date with Blackstock was quite an unusual experience for Clarkson as they went on the date on February 11, 2012; on the same day when Whitney Houston died and Kelly used to consider her idol, the source of her inspiration. She said in an interview, “This is the funniest/worst thing ever: One of my superhero idols is Whitney Houston, and the day she died was our first date.” The singer further added, “I was like, ‘This is a bad omen.'”
December 14, 2012: “I’M ENGAGED!!!!!”
Engaging with Blackstock was the best thing that happened to Clarkson and her immense could be seen through her social media posts as well. On December 14, 2012; the couple got engaged and the singer was found posting on Twitter, “I’M ENGAGED!!!!!” She further added, “I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.” As soon as Kelly shared her appreciation for the man, Blackstock quickly proposed to her while giving “Not a damn clue!”
October 20, 2013: The Marriage
The couple soon got married on October 20, 2013, and it made the singer very happy just like her fans. She tweeted, “I’m officially Mrs. Blackstock 🙂 We got married yesterday at Blackberry Farms in TN, the most beautiful place ever!”
June 12, 2014: Their First Baby
With a happy marriage and growing romance, the couple soon revealed that they were expecting their first baby. In November 2013, the singer shared, “I’m totally gonna have a girl. I’m manifesting it! And when I have a girl, you’re gonna be like, ‘That chick knew it!'” Soon enough, in June next year, the couple welcomed their first baby daughter, River Rose. The couple was extremely happy as Clarkson tweeted, “Thank you, everyone, for all of your well wishes! Brandon and I are on cloud 9!!”
April 12, 2016: Welcoming Second Baby
The singer also declared her pregnancy with the second baby on stage while performing in Los Angeles. Soon enough, the couple welcomed their baby boy on April 12, 2016, who was named, Remington Alexander. The singer posted a bunch of family photos with the baby and tweeted “Meet Remy, our newest to the family!”
November 2017: Revealing Intimacy
When it comes to Blackstock, it is evident that Clarkson was very much into her husband. The singer was found saying, “I never felt like, honestly, sexually attracted to anybody before him.” The singer also shared bits and pieces of her sex life. In 2017, the singer was found saying, “To keep it family-appropriate, let’s say we’re just a lot more active than other couples.” She also shared, “I’m a person who loves change. He loves spontaneity. Having a set time or place would be boring to us.”
June 4, 2020: Clarkson Files a Divorce Against Blackstock
After nearly seven years of loving married life, Kelly Clarkson filed a divorce against her husband on June 4, 2020, and said that there were irreconcilable differences. However, she did not want to lose her children; ‘s custody in the case. She was found saying, “I care 100 percent more about my children than I do anything else on this planet.” In November, the singer was awarded the custody of children but both of them had to spend a lump-sum amount in spousal support and child care.
August 2021: Kelly Clarkson is Legally Single
During their divorce, Clarkson also requested the court to declare her legally single. For this reason, she said that she and Blackstock “both deserve the opportunity to build a new life.” By August 2021, the judge executed the dissolution and declared the singer single. Later on, the singer also agreed to give 5.12% of their Montana ranch to Blackstock, which was valued at $908,800 back then.
March 2022: Finalized Their Divorce
After around two years of filing the divorce, the court finalized their divorce and ordered Clarkson to pay $1.3 million as well as monthly spousal support and child support as well. After her divorce, Kelly made an epic comeback in the music industry with a powerful breakup album. The new album ‘Chemistry’ shares the “arc of an entire relationship” and captivates fans with a rejuvenating essence.
Their happy relationship might have ended, but Clarkson is quite happy now and both of the individuals are proceeding in their respective lives.
