Daily Music Roll: What prompted you to take the plunge in the music industry? How it all did begin?

Dj OFFsyde: I fell in love with music when I was in eighth-grade high school where you could select music as of your main academic subjects. From 8th grade to 12th grade It was music theory, composition, and performance. It was intense and overwhelming at first, The education was really old school, exams, and performances, exams on Theory, notes, chords, arrangements, It was so intense that no one thought it was fun, unlike PE or Art classes. But for me It was mind-blowing, Its 500 plus years of its history, we learned everything from Classical to Jazz to the modern contemporaries, Pop, Rock, etc, they crammed in all in those 4 years. The guitar was my major for my performances, but the piano was forced on to us because of its universal theory and rightly so.

So after I graduated high school I wanted to become a professional musician. So it was natural for me to go to a College of Multimedia Arts Institute. After 4 years I got my BA in Recording Arts in Sound Engineering and worked in the industry as an Engineer in both live and studio environments, worked as a mixer/producer for domestic and international labels, Advertising firms, Film Companies, Production companies, Concert venues, Event management firms, etc. Always been a technician and an engineer, worked in the industry fresh from college, so that’s 14 years because im 36.

DMR: Who has been your greatest inspiration to date? Is it someone from the music fraternity or someone you know personally?

Dj OFFsyde: Max Martin was and is always has been a huge influence on how my life because I was fortunate enough to meet him because he visited our music campus as a guest lecturer for two days and ever since then I’ve always considered him to be the best pop music producer in the world in the early 90s till relevant today.

DMR: Is there any iconic and legendary figure whom you worship as an idol?

Dj OFFsyde: Naming one would be unrealistic because the passion runs endless. For me personally, I relate, look up, and admired musicians the likes of Little Richard, George Harrison, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Frank Zappa, Frank Knuckles, Larry Heard, Carl Cox, The Prodigy, to name a few!

DMR: Tell us something about your latest project that has created so much buzz?

Dj OFFsyde: Electronic music, dance music, or “EDM” is THE BUZZ from mid-2003, it always been the main Buzz apart from hip hop, pop, and rock.
Although my most recent musical projects have been in electronica music I don’t consider myself a DJ but more of a musician and producer, So my indie music fans and listeners Enjoying my tracks say that’s its different from the mainstream overproduced tracks that sound the same! And also they like that’s its actually Authentic and organic in a sense they can feel, not like a DJ chopping up samples and remixes.

DMR: How does political and social scenario trending in the world affect you as a musician? What is your point of view about the music industry in general?

Dj OFFsyde: This is a really important question and I would say that it affects us, musicians, greatly.
The music industry and entertainment industry has literally collapsed from the pandemic.
Political instability such as unreliable governments, Political infighting, Social political issues always leaves the music entertainment industry in collapse.
The true music and entertainment industry only flourishes when a country and its government and most importantly, its economy are growing properly.
I’m sure you can imagine the state we are in right now it’s political chaos, protests, human rights, civil rights, The world population has been discussing politics government and economy 24 hours seven days a week. Now when the situation is like this who has time to listen to music or even care about it we are there so much more important things to care about such as your life and well-being.

DMR: What is your take on the latest global crisis arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic?

Dj OFFsyde: Might take on the latest global crisis from the pandemic is that the truth is that the music entertainment industry is dead.
Artists/Musicians/Music industries, Concerts, live performances, music labels have collapsed.

DMR: Do you prefer creative success to material gain

Dj OFFsyde: To be honest I don’t care about both of them, Its the same thing here. Of course, everybody starts out wanting to be successful in writing that Hit and raking in the cash of royalties and sales, hoping to go on like that is unrealistic but we all want to achieve it one way or another to justify our efforts in the business.
For me it’s about my fans and listeners or what little I have of a group, To know that your music has an impact or makes someone day a bit more lively or they really enjoy your tracks no matter where you’re from or unheard of before it doesn’t matter because a good track never lies to the people who relate to it.
The amazing responses I have gotten from people who like my music on my SoundCloud profile, Their likes and comments are sincere that they enjoy it. To me, this is worth it No matter what because they can feel that I put my honesty and my passion and soul into these tracks because they give me inspiration.
