Ziming (Jason) Wang, widely known as Jaylious is captivating audiences with his magnificent song ‘Saturday’ from the same name EP. His latest musical work has generated a huge buzz among everyone. His exemplary music presentations have always amused listeners, and this time, too, it is not different. The brilliant approach is leading him to gain more audience with each passing day. It is his charming lyricism and tunes that have churned out the true essence of his songs. Recently, we got the chance to have a chat with this prolific artist. This is how it went –
DMR: Hello, Jaylious, congratulations on the massive success on the track ‘Saturday’. Did you expect it to be such a big hit?
Jaylious: Thank you, Sanchita! I wouldn’t necessarily call it a “big” hit just yet, haha. But I was definitely hoping it would resonate with more people and reach a wider audience on streaming platforms. The response has been really encouraging, and I’m just grateful people are connecting with it.
DMR: What inspired you to come up with this song?
Jaylious: I wrote ‘Saturday’ as a tribute to my dog, Ramen, who sadly lost his battle with cancer on Christmas Day in 2023. Actually, fun fact—Saturday was the first song I ever wrote. Two weeks after Ramen passed, some friends came over to check in on me, but my mind was somewhere else entirely. Suddenly, lyrics just started coming to me. I got up from the couch, grabbed a pen and notebook, and began writing them down. That’s how Saturday was born. It became a love letter and a source of comfort—a way of keeping his spirit alive through music.
DMR: This time, you have dropped an EP of the same name. How was your journey of making the EP?
Jaylious: It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster, haha. Each track on the Saturday EP carries its own story and mood. There were countless nights when I found myself either dancing or crying at 4AM, just vibing with the songs. Every track represents a different stage of Ramen’s journey—from his diagnosis, to the love and passion I poured into taking care of him, to my pleas for support, and eventually, the surreal feeling of his absence. It’s a heavy but meaningful project.
DMR: You are an independent music artist. Would you like to share your experience of creating new tracks?
Jaylious: Absolutely! As an indie artist, I’ve come to really appreciate the power of loops and plugins. In 2025, there are so many tools that make the production process more creative and efficient. The right plugins can completely change how we build soundscapes and bring our ideas to life.
DMR: Where do you get the motivation to make various soundtracks?
Jaylious: Honestly, it’s my emotions that drive most of my songwriting. My debut album Sinister Sister was built around personal struggles and inner demons. But Saturday came purely from love and loss—it’s a passion project born from pain. I think that contrast helps keep my music authentic and diverse.
DMR: What inspired you to become a music artist?
Jaylious: When I moved from Singapore to the U.S. at fourteen, my mom used to play Careless Whisper in the car all the time. That’s when I fell in love with the saxophone. I joined middle and high school band, eventually becoming Percussion Captain in marching band. One day, we played a sight-reading piece that completely captivated me. It was a version of Mermaids from Pirates of the Caribbean, and the composer turned out to be Hans Zimmer. That moment changed everything—I knew I wanted to make music that could move people like that. Later in college, my love for symphonic music blended with my fascination for EDM, and that fusion kind of shaped my signature sound.
DMR: You have mastered your art in genres like house, dance, and electronic. Is there something else you would like to try in the future?
Jaylious: Definitely! I’m always experimenting. I love putting cinematic, orchestral twists into house and dance music. I feel like I’m slowly crafting my own lane that fuses immersive symphonic elements with electronic energy. It’s an evolving process, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
DMR: Are you working on any new projects?
Jaylious: Yes! I’ve got a few collaborations in the works with some incredibly talented artists. But I’m most excited about the Sinister Sister (Deluxe Edition) which will include six new tracks—some are remixes, and some are brand new songs I think my listeners will really connect with.
DMR: When will we get to listen to your next song?
Jaylious: Next Friday actually! Haha. My new single Quiet Dreams is dropping on May 30th, and I’m really hyped for everyone to hear it.
DMR: Are you planning to perform live anytime soon?
Jaylious: Not immediately. The Saturday EP and my upcoming (secret) house album have been keeping me really busy. That said, I am planning a massive YouTube livestream DJ set. So stay tuned!
DMR: What are you planning to do next?
Jaylious: Right now, I’m focusing on engaging more with my audience and growing my presence across streaming platforms. I want my music to reach people around the world and hopefully make them feel seen, inspired, and connected.
