Olivia Rodrigo, everyone’s favorite Disney star takes the mic for the first time and lets her sinking heart float on the foams of tears and penitence. Her debut track “Drivers License” might be the song of the year, though it’s too early to say.

Rodrigo is a young celebrity face whose work with Disney projects showered the blessing of international admiration. Her debut single is full of nostalgia and nifty piano riffs that slowly revolve around a simple story of the 17-year-old finally acquiring her license to drive.

Though, her first drive through the suburbs in her car doesn’t seem to be fun because she starts to reminisce the old days of sneaking out with her former partner. Her mind gets heavy and her heartaches as she takes turns from the familiar streets, reminding the care-free strolls with her ex-lover. Her first drive after getting the driver’s license turns bitter with the memories of heartbreak.

She planned to celebrate the event with her ex but he left her for another old blonde and she sings, “But today I drove through the suburbs, crying ’cause you weren’t around.” she questions if the feelings that she felt under her skin was same to her boyfriend. She is heartbroken and agitated to remember those conversations while moving through the suburbs which lead to her ex’s house.

Her harrowing vocals become cathartic that slowly wash away the pain from the verses of the song. She eventually reveals, “I still fuckin’ love you.” The young singer makes her first song to be a confessional pop song. Everybody loves her story right away.
