India has a deep legacy of classical ragas and timeless rhythms, yet it is also the stage for one of Asia’s biggest electronic dance music gatherings, Sunburn Festival. For nearly twenty years, the festival has brought world-famous DJs and EDM fans together with hands in the air, lights flashing, and the crowd moving as one. It mostly happened in Goa. However, things are changing this year. From 19 to 21 December, Sunburn will swap Goa’s peaceful shores for the high-energy vibe of Mumbai. For three straight days, the city’s nights will pulse with powerful beats and dazzling visuals with thousands of fans dancing until the first light of dawn.

Mumbai shares a special history with Sunburn. Avicii in 2011 and Swedish House Mafia in 2013 brought unforgettable nights to the city during Sunburn Arena. Now, a recent survey by the organisers shows fans are eager to see the flagship festival beyond Goa. “One in two respondents were keen to explore the festival outside Goa, with a clear preference for Mumbai,” the official statement read. This growing demand set the stage for Sunburn’s big move to the city this year.

According to a music lover who has toured festivals across India, “Sunburn moving to Mumbai could be a welcome change. I have been to the city recently for some shows and the crowd really gets the vibe each time. Though Goa is unmatched when it comes to EDM and trance fests, Mumbai (to some extent) is the next best replacement, at least in terms of the crowd.”

Sunburn Festival announced the update on Instagram, saying, “The journey evolves – Almost 20 years of music, memories, and magic. Sunburn Festival 2025 arrives in Mumbai: fresh energy, better access, and a whole new vibe. From unforgettable sunsets to electrifying nights – we’ve shared almost 20 years of magic.

Now, the next chapter brings us home. Let’s create history. Again 🫶🏻” The shift comes as Sunburn earned the 8th spot on DJ Mag’s prestigious ‘Top 100 Festivals of 2025,’ solidifying its place on the global music map.

Karan Singh, the CEO of Sunburn, said, “Goa has been an integral part of that story and will always be close to us, but building a legacy also means taking it forward. Bringing Sunburn to Mumbai feels like the right step, creating new energy and connections in a city that never stands still. The city’s creative pulse and deep ties to youth culture make it the perfect stage for what’s next.”

Since its inception in 2007, Sunburn Festival has made Goa a hub for music lovers from around the world, drawing top international DJs and artists. From Sunburn Arena and Reload to Campus and the flagship festival, each edition brings a unique experience and expands its global reach. Over the years, the stage has hosted some of EDM’s biggest names, including Martin Garrix, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, Alan Walker, Armin van Buuren, DJ Snake, Tiësto, The Chainsmokers, David Guetta, and Hardwell.
