Assam CM Calls for Probe into Zubeen Garg’s Death Certificate Stating ‘Drowning’

The news of Zubeen Garg’s sudden passing has plunged Assam into mourning, leaving a void that echoes far beyond the state’s borders. The beloved singer, whose voice carried the heartbeat of an entire generation, breathed his last in Singapore on September 19 following a tragic scuba diving accident. His journey home became a procession of sorrow and love.

First flown to Delhi, his mortal remains were later taken to Guwahati, where the city embraced him one final time. On Sunday morning, grief poured into the streets as thousands gathered to honor their icon. At the Arjun BhogeswarBaruah Sports Complex, the atmosphere was heavy yet alive with devotion. Fans there stood shoulder to shoulder, tears mingling with memories, each person wanting one last moment with the artist who had been part of their lives. Zubeen’s farewell was not just a goodbye, but a collective cry of gratitude for a legend gone too soon. Chief Minister HimantaBiswaSarma told the media that the Singapore High Commission has handed over Zubeen Garg’s death certificate. The document states the cause of death as “drowning.” The revelation has sparked questions and led to demands for clarity surrounding the tragic end of the celebrated Assamese singer.

The CM clarified that the death certificate cannot be treated as a post-mortem report. “We have received the death certificate from the Singapore High Commission. It mentions drowning as the cause. But this is not the post-mortem. Both are different. We have already asked for the post-mortem report, and our Chief Secretary is in touch with the Singapore Ambassador to get it at the earliest. Once we get the documents, they will be handed over to the CID,” he explained.

The Chief Minister shared that Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally called him several times to inquire about the arrangements for Zubeen Garg’s final journey. He said Shah’s concern reflected the deep respect the late singer commanded, not only in Assam but across the nation, uniting people in shared grief. “Amit Shah ji has inquired two to three times today. He assured us of any help needed and advised us on the arrangements,” the CM of Assam said.
