Indian-origin singer, songwriter, and rapper Raja Kumari won an American Music Award (AMA) on Tuesday. The award was for her work on ‘Arcane League of Legends: Season 2’. The 51st AMA ceremony took place in Los Angeles on Monday night. Before the event, Kumari told PTI she was the first Indian-origin musician to be nominated for an AMA. The nominated track, ‘Renegade (We Never Run)’ is from the ‘Arcane League of Legends’ soundtrack. The song is a collaboration between Raja Kumari, UK hip-hop artist Stefflon Don, and Dominican-Brazilian artist Jarina de Marco. It was nominated in the Favorite Soundtrack category. Winning this award marks a significant moment for Kumari and highlights her growing influence in the global music scene. Her success shows how diverse voices are gaining recognition in big music awards like the AMA. This win also shines a light on the power of collaborations across different cultures and genres.

In the interview, Kumari further said that she did not expect the song to be such a big hit. “The song actually went top 10 in the world on the ‘Viral 50’ charts on Spotify. It was something that kind of came out of nowhere. I just did a song for a film. I didn’t have many expectations for it. It ended up really impacting people,” said the artist. The AMA nomination came at a time when the rapper was starting to think that focusing on just one genre might be the key to success. She had begun to doubt if spreading herself across different styles would hold her back. But this nomination showed her that breaking the rules and blending genres could still lead to big achievements. It reminded her that staying true to her unique style and creativity matters most in the music world.

“And I’ve always been a global artist, so an AMA award is a great reminder that there’s still much more work for me to do, and still much more for me to impact and grow,” Kumari added.
