Shashaa Tirupati, mostly known as ‘The Humma Girl’ has recently sung a song for the Dhanush, Sara Ali Khan, and Akshay Kumar starred film, ‘Atrangi Re’. The song, ‘Rait Zara Si’ is her third duet with singer Arijit Singh.
The singer has given several hits like ‘Khul Ke Jeene Ka’ from ‘Dil Bechara’ and ‘Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga’ from ‘Half Girlfriend’. The new song is her first song with Sara Ali Khan. While talking about the song, the award-winning singer said that it was her third duet with Arijit Singh. It is a love song and it is her first time to sing for Sara Ali Khan. I had sung both the Tamil and the Hindi versions of the single. She feels that her voice and Arijit’s voice sync beautifully together. She loves how they sang it together. She said that the music for the track is gorgeously composed by A.R. Rahman and written by Irshaad Ji. ‘The thing is that when you are recording any song for Rahman sir he kind of casts you in that song in his mind and then he calls you for it.’
She further added that she felt an instant connection with the song when she was singing and even rendered it for the first time. She recorded the first version of the track in Canada at the time of lockdown. For her, it was love at first sound. She prayed for the song to be released in her voice. She expressed her gratitude to A.R. Rahman and Aanand L. Rai who took a collective call to select her for the song. According to her the sheer amount of love, vulnerability, and naiveness in the song represent her in many ways.
She describes her experience of working with Arijit Singh as overwhelming as he is one of her favorite singers of all time. She said that she has tried to learn from Arijit Singh as much as possible. His incredible knack for interpreting melodies is something that she utilizes in her singing by learning from him. It is unreal for her to be featured in the same song as him. She expressed her wish to do a single with him and write a song for him. She calls herself both his fan and student.
Her latest songs are ‘Chhoddo Mori Baiyyaan’ from ‘Navarasa’ and ‘Hututu’ from ‘Mimi’. Both the songs have become major hits all over the country. She has recorded songs in more than 20 languages with over 250 songs under her belt. The Indian-born Canadian singer-songwriter will also be releasing her debut English EP ‘I’m Sorry Heart’ very soon.
