On May 15, 2023, German singer Kim Petras took to social media to announce the title of her much-awaited studio album, ‘Feed the Beast’, which is set to be released on June 23rd, 2023. On May 24, the singer shared a monochromatic post informing listeners of the tracklist of the album, with the titles of the songs written in an archaic font beside the picture of a “medieval sword” resting against a jagged boulder, and the post was captioned: “which song are u claiming? ⚔️”. The news came as a breath of fresh air for fans after her album ‘Problématique’ was scrapped in 2022 when a majority of the songs in the album got leaked. It was supposed to have been the artist’s third studio record and major-label debut. Her other album ‘Candy’ also met a similar fate.

However, three of the songs from ‘Problématique’ ended up being added to the tracklist of ‘Feed the Beast’: “Revelations”, “Sex Talk” & “Hit It From The Back”. The song “Coconuts” which was intended to be a part of the scrapped album is also a part of ‘Feed the Beast’. On 21 April 2023, Kim released the song “Alone“, in which the singer collaborated with rapper Nicki Minaj, and the song went on to be a chartbuster in five countries. When she announced that it was going to be the lead single in the album, speculations arose that the previous singles “If Jesus Was a Rockstar” and “brrr“, released in November 2022 and January 2023 respectively, had been scrapped. The tracklist showed that only the former had been scrapped, and a bonus track had been added: the Grammy Award winner “Unholy”, where the artist collaborated with Sam Smith.

It was on 17 February 2023 that Kim Petras announced with excitement that the album she has been working on “for three years” was ready to be released. Consisting of a total of 15 tracks, the album will mark Petras’ first full-length project with Republic Records.

After the songs from ‘Problématique’ got leaked, she tweeted that fans could “listen to the leaks if they wanted to”, but her label was stopping her from releasing the project. She had also tweeted that the album had not been scrapped but was in a state of “limbo”, but no more songs were released after “Coconuts”. On August 8, 2022, in a pre-show interview before her Outside Lands Festival performance, the singer confirmed that the album was scrapped and stated to her fans: “Go listen to my scrapped album. Those songs are never coming out. I want you to listen and give me your opinions. I wrote them for you.”
