Taylor Swift, arguably the most successful artist in today’s music industry, gave her fans much more than they bargained for at this year’s Grammy Awards. When she was accepting her 13th Grammy Award for ‘Midnights’ in the Best Pop Vocal Album category she announced that her new album is coming out this year, that too in mid-acceptance speech! ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is going to be Swift’s eleventh studio album and is all set to release this year.

This welcome news came as she was receiving the Best Pop Vocal Album for her last album, ‘Midnights‘ which also was announced as a surprise in another award show. This is my 13th Grammy – which is my lucky number, I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that,” Taylor teased the crowd when she arrived at the stage at Crypto.com Arena on February 4th. “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years …” She then went on to reveal the title of her upcoming album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Now with the release date coming so close, here is what we know about this new album so far.

The Title

The eleventh studio album by Taylor Swift is called ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. However, fans have suspected that there might be layers to the title. Swifties were quick to notice and speculate how similar the album title sounds to a certain group chat by her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. In a December 2022 Variety interview, Joe along with his co-star Paul Mescal revealed that they have a group chat named “The Tortured Man Club.”

When will it arrive?

Swift revealed that ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is arriving on April 19, Friday.

Swift shared the black and white album cover just moments after she announced while accepting her Grammy. On the cover, Swift poses in black shorts and a top, laying back on a white bedding with her arms wrapped together on her body. This cover is similar to her 1989 cover where the top half of her face is barricaded from the picture. Stylist Joseph Cassell later revealed on Instagram that Taylor was wearing a black cami tank top and matching high-rise briefs from The Row, by Mary Kate and Ashley.

What is the tracklist?

Taylor’s upcoming album will have 16 songs along with a bonus track. When she posted the album’s cover on Instagram, she also posted the record’s back cover and the tracklist.
