Australian electronic duo The Avalanches have officially announced their long-awaited fourth studio album, ‘No Bad Memories’, which is scheduled for release on October 16. The announcement arrived on Thursday, August 6, alongside a brand new single. This gave fans another glimpse into the group’s next creative chapter after a five-year gap since ‘We Will Always Love You’.

According to the official press release, ‘No Bad Memories’ explores the complex relationship between nostalgia, advertising, and the sounds that quietly become part of everyday life. The project reflects on “the simultaneously magical and insidious ways that advertising and name-brand technology wraps itself around our memories,” describing the album as “an ambivalent ode to the nostalgic pull of commercial jingles, proprietary start-up sounds and long forgotten audio logos.” Rather than simply revisiting the past, the album transforms those familiar sounds into something fresh while examining how deeply they shape personal memories.

Alongside the announcement, The Avalanches shared the new single titled ‘Can’t Get Over Losing You’. It is a vibrant electronic track built around driving kickdrums, handclaps, and shimmering synths. The song also features vocals from Louisiana-born artist and producer Portraits of Tracy. It adds another distinctive collaboration to the band’s growing list of guest appearances.

The new release marks the fourth single from ‘No Bad Memories’. It follows the previously released tracks ‘Together’ featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss, ‘Every Single Weekend’ featuring Jamie xx, and ‘Blue Shadows’ featuring Karen O. Released through Modular Recordings Pty Limited, the album will include an impressive 31 tracks, although the remaining 27 song titles have yet to be revealed.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the album, the group shared a statement that captures the project’s emotional and creative foundation.

“It’s been interesting as adults to reflect on this often stunning period of marketing – the creativity, filmmaking, photography and music – but which was also – you know, selling a completely unobtainable dream,” the group says in a joint statement. “The way we value devices and products; the way we reflect and represent ‘a life lived’; the wonder of memory and deep power of nostalgia, especially in sound. Revisiting imagery and jingles from childhood and realizing how profoundly they have stuck… Taking these sound sources from within the heart of this kinda corporate framework and flipping the fragments into our own kind of joyous pop music … eventually we arrived at this world of No Bad Memories.”

With its blend of nostalgic inspiration, inventive production, and an ambitious tracklist, ‘No Bad Memories’ promises to continue The Avalanches’ tradition of turning unexpected sound sources into richly layered electronic music. The upcoming record also marks the duo’s first full-length studio release since their acclaimed 2020 album, ‘We Will Always Love You’. This makes it one of the year’s most anticipated electronic releases.
