Whether it was a strategic idea or not, the ‘A-Team’ singer decided to reveal the existence of the second account on the evening of the day when his new single ‘Old Phone’ was released. It made it more relevant and helped to create much buzz among the Sheeran fans.

This Instagram of Sheeran also provides some backstory for the upcoming song which is an ode to self from a decade back. The artist has gone through a lot since the copyright issue occurred and he went through all of his old phones for evidence. While searching for it, he came across all the memories he made and it made him swept away in emotions.

Ed Sheeran wrote about how he felt going through his old phone and it was quite intimate. The first thing he could recall was an old text message from the late Jamal Edwards which stirred him. Similarly, there were messages from family and his ex-girlfriend who he hadn’t talked to in years.

Sheeran said, “It felt like a time capsule, a time of life that I was in, and living at that time in 2015. Turning it on really spun me out, I found myself scrolling messages and conversations with people who are no longer here. I found myself crying at messages to friends who are now dead, who I won’t get to speak to again.”

Continuing on his emotional journey, he further added, “It feels like a song that should’ve been on my debut album, but also a song I couldn’t have written until I experienced real life things happening to me. It makes me emotional to sing, I hope it finds some emotion in you too. Maybe it makes you switch on your old phone and have a look at where you were a decade ago too. Whatever it does, I’m glad I wrote it.”
