It started with ‘It Ends with Us’ and it is never ending now with Justin Baldoni’s legal representatives subpoenaing Taylor Swift for being a part of their ongoing lawsuit. This made the Lively furious as Swift is one of her closest friends. The representation for Lively has offered a stern response to this demand and the chaos has amped up.

The legal updates about Lively and Baldoni’s case have been subdued for months now after a rebuttal from a New York judge for both parties as they were offering too much to feast upon for the public before the March 2026 trial takes place. But this case is taking a bigger shape now with Baldoni’s camp taking the decision to subpoena pop idol Taylor Swift in order to make this case even more grandiose.

In a statement, they addressed that Swift has been called upon to utilize her fame, which can help to build up this case.  The representative for Lively has harshly accused Baldoni’s team of making a cheap move and said that they are trying ‘to turn a case of sexual harassment and retaliation into entertainment for the tabloids’. The statement further reads, “This is a very serious legal matter, not Barnum & Bailey’s Circus.”

It continues with “The defendants continue to publicly intimidate, bully, shame, and attack women’s rights and reputations. Including in the past month, seeking to strike down for all, a powerful California victims’ rights law, calling it ‘unconstitutional’. The statement also reads, “The disturbing actions by a billionaire, men who made their careers as ‘female allies’ and their team continue to show their true colours.”

There is no doubt that the entertainment industry has always faced some internalized misogyny from time to time, but this case is taking a bigger shape by bringing the film industry and the music industry together.

The representative for Taylor Swift said, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film.” It is true that the pop star has been highly busy at that time with her Eras Tour shows. The statement further reads, “The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet.’”

However, there are other songs too. The statement further explains, “Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
