Wednesday season 2 is out, and it is already garnering fans’ attention for its amazing storyline and character development. One of the characters that caught people’s attention was Billie Piper as the music teacher in Wednesday’s school, Nevermore. Music has always been an essential part of the Addams Family franchise, whether it is for a Broadway musical or a spooky score at a film or TV show. Additionally, the Addams Family theme song, written by Vic Mizzy is still one of the most iconic songs in Horror history. So, it is a good thing that the hit Netflix show, Wednesday, embraced this aspect of the franchise, as viewers can see Jenna Ortega even playing Cello.

Season 1 of the Wednesday show featured some of the coolest Cello covers like The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’. This musical trend continued even in season 2 with more iconic songs and a brand new music teacher at school. Wednesday Addams already knows how to play the cello in season 1. But she has no one to help her refine her skills. That changes in season 2. Nevermore Academy hires Isadora Capri, a child musical prodigy and werewolf, as the new music teacher. In the show, she forms a tense bond with Wednesday as the teacher pushes her to aim for perfection. Isadora Capri is played by Billie Piper, who once starred in Doctor Who. Piper is a great fit for Wednesday’s teacher because she had a big music career before she became a well-known actor.

In two of the four episodes in season 2, part 1, Piper’s character sings, and the show uses her real vocals. This is not surprising, as singing is how Piper first made her name. She stayed in that career until 2003, when she switched her focus to acting. Piper signed with a record label at just the age of 15. Her debut single ‘Because We Want To’ went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. She became the youngest female artist to debut at the top. Her first album, Honey to the B, reached platinum in the UK and double platinum in New Zealand.

Piper’s songs on the UK Top 10 –

Song title Debut on the chart Highest rank Number of weeks in the top 10
‘Because We Want To’ 11th July, 1998 #1 14
‘Girlfriend’ 17th October, 1998 #1 13
‘She Wants You’ 19th December, 1998 #3 18
‘Honey to the Bee’ 3rd April, 1999 #3 15
‘Day & Night’ 27th May, 2000 #1 13
‘Something Deep Inside’ 30th September, 2000 #4 14

However, Billie Piper is not the only actor who has used their real voice in Wednesday season 2. Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Wednesday’s mother, Morticia Addams, also sang a duet with Piper. They covered Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Bad Moon Rising’ in one episode. On the other hand, Zeta-Jones had a brief music career herself. In the early ’90s, the star played Velma Kelly in ‘Chicago’, the movie adaptation starring Renée Zellweger and Richard Gere. While the actress’s singing might not have helped her land the role of Morticia Addams in Wednesday, the viewers surely enjoyed her making use of her musical abilities this season.
