Nicki Minaj made a surprise appearance at SpaceX’s Starship V3 launch in Boca Chica Beach, Texas, on Thursday, creating an unexpected crossover between pop culture and space exploration. While the event quickly gained attention online because of Minaj’s appearance alongside Elon Musk, the highly anticipated launch ultimately failed to take off after technical issues forced a last-minute cancellation.

Ahead of the launch, Musk shared a post welcoming the rapper to the SpaceX facility. In a video uploaded online, Minaj appeared wearing a Starship-themed t-shirt while standing near the launch site. The moment immediately sparked reactions across social media, especially because the rocket’s name closely resembles one of her biggest hits, ‘Starships’. During the clip, Minaj praised Musk and his work, saying, “Major shoutout to Elon. Thank you for everything you’re doing for humanity.”

The appearance added an unusual entertainment angle to the already high-profile launch event. Fans online joked about the connection between Minaj’s music and the Starship rocket program, while others were surprised to see the rapper involved in a major aerospace event. Despite the excitement surrounding the collaboration, the mission itself did not proceed as planned. The uncrewed Starship V3 launch was called off shortly before liftoff because of a technical malfunction. Musk later explained that a faulty hydraulic pin connected to the launch tower caused the delay and prevented the rocket from launching safely. According to reports from The Daily Beast, Musk confirmed that another launch attempt was expected to take place on Friday at 5:30 CT if the issue could be fixed in time.

At the moment, it remains unclear if Minaj will return for the rescheduled launch attempt. Her appearance at the event also comes during a period where the rapper has become increasingly vocal about her political views and support for Donald Trump. Minaj publicly endorsed Trump in 2025 and has continued appearing alongside figures connected to his political movement.

Observers online pointed out similarities between Minaj’s appearance at the SpaceX launch and Trump’s own visits to rocket launches in recent years. According to Business Insider, the president has attended at least two SpaceX launches.

In a recent interview with Time, Minaj explained why she shifted toward MAGA politics, revealing that several “swatting” incidents at her home changed her political outlook. She claimed she reached out to California Governor Gavin Newsom on X for help but never received a reply. “He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” she told Time. The rapper also stated she would do “whatever it is” to support Trump during the upcoming midterms.
