Working in the broad R&B field, Moody Bank$ has delivered an album that not only typifies what the genre means today but also draws a line back through its previous incarnations, from 90’s pop divas to rhythm and blues bands and back to the Do Woop bands of the early rock and roll era.
“Feeling Colors” combines innovative and sophisticated urban music, dance grooves and soulful vibes into one wonderfully accessible, pop-infused album.
Genres, labels and generic descriptions are things of the past, which can only be good. As Moody Bank$ demonstrates eloquently on this album, artists are free to mix up their influences without them. They can take inspiration wherever they find it, and make music that wilfully ignores rules, jumps musical boundaries, swerves tribal allegiances and pander to the listener’s expectations.
It is safe to say that although “Feeling Colors” makes a few nods to the past, it is an album that could only have been made in the modern age. Not only is it the sound of now but also the sound of the future, which is always something that should be cherished and celebrated.
