10 Best Artists of 2023 According to Spotify’s Latest BNA event

Spotify’s annual event of Best New Artist (BNA) of the year is what everyone looks forward to and this year's BNA 2023 offered some of the best nominations and performances.

The last seven years have had many aspects of the music scene with Spotify’s annual celebration, especially for rising indie artists. Its nomination for the best new artists has never failed to satisfy the listeners with the best finds. With 2023 almost at its midway; it is time to find out the top 10 nominees for best new artist this year.

They gathered all together at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood and celebrated an unforgettable evening with Music.

Wet Leg

Wet Leg

This talented duo created a huge buzz with their self-titled debut ‘Wet Leg’ in 2022. Their indie-rock single ‘Convincing’ is highly acclaimed. They performed the track at BNA and said, “Since live music has opened back up, we play some tracks just as they were recorded, but ‘Convincing’ is one of the songs that has gone through a little shapeshift over time as we’ve been playing gigs for the last year. This version we recorded with James leans into the more mellow and woozy world where it exists in our live sets.”

Molly Tuttle

Churning out the original essence of bluegrass, folk, and country music; Molly Turtle created her own genre with sheer talent and individuality. Her seven-song EP ‘Rise’ was released in 2017, the same year when she became the first woman to win the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Guitar Player of the Year Award. With her versatility as a singer and an instrumentalist, Molly made some significant progress and that reflects through Bluegrass collective music project ‘Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway.’

Tobe Nwigwe

Tobe Nwigwe’s deep and soothing voice is easily recognizable and he just offered one of his best performances at the BNA with his wife Ivory Rogers and producer LANELL GRANT. His single in 2020. ‘TRY JESUS’ ranked at no.4 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart. With this success, he also performed at the 2020 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Tobe, along with his wife Fat Nwigwe can surely make the crowd enthralled. It is a happy moment as she is expecting a baby soon!

Well, It seems like listeners are ‘Beggin’ for the musical project from Rome-based rock band Måneskin. Both of their albums, 2018’s ‘Il ballo della vita’ and 2021’s ‘Teatro d’Ira, Vol. 1’ created a huge buzz among global listeners while topping the charts with quadruple-platinum certifications. The four members of the band met in high school and made the biggest band breakthrough. They performed their hit track ‘ZITTI E BUONI’ and also performed the famous cover of ‘Beggin’ in matching Ivory Suits.

This rapper from Atlanta offers raw energy through her witty lyrics, charm, and effortless style of deliverance. In 2019, she gained a lot of attention with the banger ‘B*tch from Da Souf’. The success was quickly followed by her first proper studio album in 2020, titled ‘Queen of Da Souf.’ The music project made its place in the Top 50 of the Billboard 200. The next project, ‘777’ took a higher notch by hitting the no.15. She literally brought ‘Big Energy’ to the event with her high-octane performance.

The smooth and velvety vocal texture of Samara can captivate listeners with a sharp essence of the early ‘60s. Her label debut project ‘Linger Awhile’ helped to pave her way towards success. Other than her own songs, she also made a jazzy rendition of Adele’s hit “Someone Like You,” which touched the souls of the listeners. Samara said, “But it is a song that, although about a heartbreak, is also about acceptance and moving on and moving forward. I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to do my own version of this song after hearing it for so many years.”

The full-length album ‘Public Displays of Affection: The Album’ created another milestone.

This hyperactive duo is capable of some shocking blend of hip-hop, progressive jazz, and R&B that will blow your mind, but their humble nature will make to smile also. At the event, they said, “We usually just stay home, write . . . do absolutely nothing—fun stuff. People have Spotify and they wouldn’t hear our music without it. So thank you.”

If you are looking for a retro-soul and R&B sound, Omar has got you all covered with his mesmerizing voice. His debut EP project ‘Stereo’ in 2018, followed by a full-length album, ‘Apolonio’; helped to prove his excellence in the music scene. Apollo received two Latin Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Alternative Song for the track ‘Te Olvidaste,’ a collaboration project with Spanish singer C. Tangana. ‘Ivory’ is one of his highly acclaimed albums that offered guest features from Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchis.

Her single in 2021, ‘Envolver’ became one of the most streamed songs in a single day. It was also the first ever track to rank in the Top 50 of all Latin countries on a streaming platform like Spotify.

Embracing her culture, she said on Spotify: Mic Check, “I want new fans to know that I like to bring my culture and my country into my music and that it’s not easy to come from Brazil.” The gratitude towards Spotify was evident as the artist said, “ Spotify has been a partner in my career since the beginning.”
