First, let’s be clear, there are no bad Taylor Swift albums. Even though she came into the industry and soon became one of the most popular names in the music scene, her work and the depth of it have only gotten better. It also showcases how she and her artistry have revolved.

Back in 2006, when 17-year-old Taylor Swift released her debut single ‘Tim McGraw’, the world got a taste of her immense storytelling abilities and heartfelt music. Since then as time passed by, the artist has given several hits after hits and records that ruled charts for weeks. In honor of her 10th studio album, ‘Midnights’, let’s look at all 10 album by taylor swift, ranked.

‘Taylor Swift’ – 2006 6/10

Almost 15 years ago, the 17-year-old teenager, Taylor Swift released her self-titled album which she also self-wrote in her freshman year of high school. The album placed her as a country crossover who is ready for mainstream success. There are several standouts in ‘Taylor Swift’, such as “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Picture to Burn,” and “Cold As You” which perfectly capture the true essence of the album. The debut album also smashed Billboard Hot Country Songs charts but this was only the start. This is also the album where Swift infamously started her ‘Revenge tracks’ which got better with each album.

‘Lover’ – 2019 6.5/10

Where ‘Reputation’ was a risky choice for Swift, she did a personal follow-up with her 2019 release, ‘Lover’. Named after one of the lead singles from the album, it had several elements of her past works, like “1989” and “Speak Now”. The musical creation felt incredibly personal to Swift, as the tracks are an ode to the most important parts of her life, from her recent ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn to New York City. However, the album felt a little uneven, especially about how the most childish lyrics in the super bright pop track “Me!” to soft and heart-wrenching ballads like “Soon You’ll Get Better.”

‘Reputation’ – 2017 7/10

 As mentioned before, Swift took an insane risk with ‘Reputation’ which was released in 2017. The album surely served a purpose, as it pushed back the narrative that the media painted on Taylor as a vengeful, and bitter personality. When the whole world hated the singer for her ongoing beef with Kanye West, Swift made an epic comeback with the album where she set the records straight. Dark, sassy, biting, and one of the best songs from taylor swift, “Look What You Made Me Do”, reminds the world that this musical powerhouse is not someone that can be messed with.

‘Speak Now’ – 2010 7/10

 This is the third studio album that put Swift as a certified big deal in the music industry. This album contains elements of pop rock, soft rock, and bluegrass and became Swift’s one of the strongest albums, filled with catchy and hooky morsels. Served with Grammy-winning singles like ‘Mean’, ‘Sparks Fly’ and break-up slow-burner ‘Back to December’ have become karaoke classics. The album is also one of the most impressive displays of her storytelling powers at just 20 years of age.

‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ – 2021 7/10

 When ‘Teardrops on My Guitar’ from Taylkor’s debut album precedes as the breakthrough song for the artist, it was the pop ballad ‘Love Story’ from her follow-up, second studio album ‘Fearless’ that cemented her name in the pop music industry. In this album, the artist still kept things country, but presented with proper pop-edge music. Tracks like ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong with Me’ and ‘Fifteen’, the artist filled the album with “heart-on-sleeve lyrics” and affecting music still remains one of her best works.

‘Midnights’ – 2022 7.5/10

 When Taylor Swift first announced ‘Midnights’ her 10th studio album releasing, she described the album as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life”. Her most recent work is definitely a return to pop music. This taylor swift’s newest album is filled with tracks and realizations that only hit people in dark hours and is a dreamy pop album, despite not being fully aligned with that subgenre, all thanks to the production of Jack Antonoff. Lead, catchy single ‘‘Anti-Hero’’ is still reigning the Billboard chart.

‘Folklore’ – 2020 7.5/10

This surprise eighth-studio album, ‘Folklore’ arrived with very few announcements and fanfare. The artist announced the album a day before its release and was indeed a treat to her fans amid the stress of the pandemic. She teamed up with her long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff, and Aaron Dessner, on folklore taylorswift explores a new genre of indie-folk in this album. The reason which makes this album a lyrical masterpiece is that the singer wrote fearlessly not only from her own point of view but also from other people which can be heard in tracks like ‘Exile’, ‘The Last Great American Dynasty’, ‘Betty’, ‘August’, ‘Cardigan’, etc.

‘Evermore’ – 2020 8/10

 Swift was not content with her surprise drop of ‘Folklore’ but she had to give the world ‘Evermore’ which she described as a sister record to the aforementioned ‘Folklore’. This album allows the artist to completely reinvent her music and sound. With the heavy usage of the artist’s signature hooks, and indie-folk instrumentals, Swift impresses critics and fans with tracks like ‘Willow’, ‘Long Story Short’, ‘Gold Rush’, ‘Marjorie’, etc.

‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ – 2021 8.5/10

Originally released in 2012, ‘Red’ was the album where the transition of Taylor Swift from a country singer to glossy, mainstream pop began. On its re-recording in 2021, the world was reminded of her great storytelling power through these taylor’s version albums. ‘Red’ is filled with top-notch pop tunes like ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, and ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ where the latter earned Swift her first ever Billboard 100 Number One, but it is ‘All Too Well’ that is the finest track on Red.

This is the album where Taylor ditched her country roots and embraced full-blown pop music. Named after her birth year ‘1989’, the album is a “collection of glossy belters”, that has literally everything, from dance anthem ‘Shake It Off’, to electronic-tinged bops, ‘Blank Space’, and ‘Style’ to indietronica composition, ‘Out of the Woods’.
