When it comes to the development of the K-pop music industry, YG Entertainment does a great job with their K-pop trainee system in South Korea that audition members to work under the entertainment agency as students or trainees. Soon they become seasoned enough to create their debut acts and that is how BLACKPINK also performed their first recording.

Explaining the title of the girl group, the label company YG Entertainment said that the name intends to depict that this girl group does only embody beauty and music but a lot more than that. They said, “The meaning of BLACKPINK aims to contradict the common perception of the color pink”. Breaking the stereotypes, they said, “Pink is commonly used to portray prettiness, but BLACKPINK actually means to say that ‘Pretty isn’t everything.’ It also symbolizes that they are a team that encompasses not only beauty but also great talent.”

Starting with their debut in 2016, this unwavering girl group has dropped a handful of singles before launching their album in 2020, called ‘The Album’. Even though they have a very small discography; their glam look, stage presence, and fun choreography made them quickly popular around the world. They created a huge fan base who helped to spread the fire by replicating their moves on social media platforms.

The group made significant progress with their unparalleled performances, songs with bilingual lyrics, and the subject matter that speak about independence and vulnerability. Another cool feature of BLACKPINK that makes it stand out is the amount of creativity in its music videos. The video styling and concepts for each song are masterfully handled to offer an ethereal and powerful musical experience. While most K-pop acts include only two to three concepts, BLACKPINK takes it further to five to six distinctively different concepts in their official music videos. Starting from the colors, clothing, and set design to their bright and invigorating presence; each song has received an additional layer of creativity. In a nutshell, BLACKPINK goes that extra mile for the listeners that makes them stand out.
