Bet Hp-Hop Awards which is dedicated to celebrating Hip Hop culture was full of twists of turns as it unfolded 2023’s winners. Fans are shockingly surprised!

The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards was held on 3rd October 2023 as the 17th installment of the BET Hip Hop Awards, planned to select the best talent of 2023 in Hip Hop music. The grand ceremony was taped at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, Georgia and it was aired on the 10th of October. Fat Joe, the magnificent rapper hosted the awards.

 

Well, the nominations were declared on 7th September 2023 where Cardi B and 21 Savage, Drake, and Burna Boy ruled the nominations chart with the highest number of nominations. The Prestigious BET Awards are back with a bang again this year with some interesting surprises. The award ceremony is celebrating a half-century in the field of recognizing hip-hop talents and honoring the best.

Multiple performers from the continent apart from Burna Boy were also nominated for the prestigious honor including Sampa The Great, AKA, K.O are the ones who from the African artists to get nominated for the BET.

In addition to that, BET’s EVP specials, music strategy, and music programming, Connie Orlando stated, ‘This year’s BET Hip Hop Awards will mark the culmination of our yearlong celebration of hip-hop’s storied creation and the art form’s sonic and cultural expansion.’ continued adding, ‘We are honoured by this year’s roster of nominees as they continue to carry the creativity and diversity of hip-hop into the future. We congratulate each nominee on their accomplishments as they take hip-hop artistry to new heights.’

 ‘Just Wanna Rock’ by Lil Uzi Vert, ‘Players’ by Coi Leray, and ‘Put It On Da Floor Again’ by Latto ft. Cardi B managed to be on the top three of the nomination list for the Best Hip Hop video. ‘Rich Flex’ by Drake & 21 Savage, and ‘Tomorrow 2’ by GloRilla & Cardi B secured their spots among the nominees for Song of the year.

Well, Kendrick Lamar was the big achiever at the awards dominated four categories and won them including, Hip-hop Artist of the year and Lyricist of the year along with Dave Free, his creative partner, best live performer, and video director of the year. Of course, he was not the only one who won big at the award show. Drake & 21 Savage and Lil Durk ft. J. Cole managed to win two awards Metro Boomin and Lil Uzi Vert.

Unfortunately, Cardi B did not get to bring home a single award after fighting head-to-head with 21 Savage for maximum nominations. This is the second time the radiant performer got to go home barehand. Apart from Cardi B, DJ Khaled, and Burna Boy got to be on seven nominations but got to go home with no award.

Rakim and LL Cool paid their tribute to Marley Marl. The show featured another tribute to Jermaine Dupri, founder of So So Def. Swizz Beatz and Timbaland presented this year’s cypher which was played by DJ E Feezy and DJ Runa.

Amongst the shutouts, Jay-Z stood out shining as he won for his featured verse on DJ Khaled’s ‘God Did’ featured Rick Ross, John Legend, Lil Wayne, and Fridayy as well. ‘Just Wanna Rock’ by Lil Uzi Vert reached No. 10 on the Hot 100 and managed to brag the title of song of the year and defeat the biggest crossover hits ‘Rich Flex’ by Drake & 21 Savage and ‘All My Life’ by Lil Durk ft. J. Cole.

Moreover, BET described the awards as ‘Sometimes a guest verse from the right MC can transform a song from cool to classic. This award is for the most outstanding feature verse by an artist on a song for which he/she is not the lead artist.’
