Harry Styles Takes Over Madison Square Garden for Opening Night

Harry Styles kicked off his NYC residency with a fresh setlist, a Dolly Parton tribute, and a star-filled night featuring Zoë Kravitz, Gayle King, and Drew Barrymore.

Harry Styles opened his highly anticipated 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. He turned the iconic New York venue into a celebration of his music and deep connection with the city. The opening night brought a refreshed setlist, the live debut of a new song, and an emotional tribute to the late Dolly Parton. The star-studded audience watched from the crowd, including Styles’ fiancée, Zoë Kravitz.

The night began with ‘Dance No More’, from Styles’ latest album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. The track replaced ‘Are You Listening Yet?’ as the opening number and immediately set an energetic tone, with Styles moving across the neon oval stage as fans sang along. He soon gave the crowd another surprise by performing ‘Carolina’, from his 2017 self-titled debut album, a song he had not played live in years. The energy continued with favourites including ‘Adore You’, ‘Watermelon Sugar’, ‘As It Was’, ‘Music for a Sushi Restaurant’, ‘Satellite’, and ‘Cinema’. Styles also gave ‘The Waiting Game’, another track from his latest album, its first-ever live performance.

The Together, Together tour marks Styles’ first U.S. tour in three years, while Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally arrives as his first album in four years. His history with Madison Square Garden runs deep. He first performed at the venue with One Direction in 2012 at just 18, before returning for 15 shows during his 2022 run. Recalling his first appearance, Styles told the audience that he had kissed the floor upon arriving and said, “I’ve made it to Madison Square Garden!” This time, he returned as one of pop’s biggest solo stars.

‘Kiwi’ sparked one of the loudest reactions of the night, while familiar faces filled the audience. Kravitz was spotted enjoying the show alongside CBS Mornings host Gayle King and Drew Barrymore, who danced, filmed, and sang along from the crowd. Near the end of the concert, Styles also paused to honor Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday following a battle with cancer.
