Controversies are an inevitable part of the music industry as even the bigger names have been a part of it. Whether it is the last decade or the recent one, every musical era gives birth to new legends and newer controversies. Let’s take a better look at the most controversial singers and rappers in the music industry.
Kanye West
Starting from claiming himself as the God to interrupting Taylor Swift while accepting her VWA, Kanye West’s name is at the top of controversies. People could not forgive him back and the swifties are still pissed with the matter. Recently, Kaney is getting involved in more controversies with his bipolarity and murderous intent against Pete Davidson. After the separation between him and his wife Kim Kardashian, Kaney has been seeking mental help before getting indulged in more controversies.
Elvis Presley
This legendary singer got involved in a controversy when he first appeared for Ed Sullivan. Though the artist was widely praised for his ‘Rubber legs’ and exotic moves, it is considered to be quite risqué back then. Regarding his death, there is a controversy that the artist has died from an overdose of medication, however, it is debatable. There is an urban myth that Elvis is still alive.
Prince
The legendary Prince has always been at the top of controversy due to his explicit sexual lyrics and using the f-word multiple times. Some of his singles like, ‘Sister’ is an ode to incest relationships while another track ‘Let’s Pretend We’re Married’ explicitly expresses oral sex. ‘Sexy MF’ is another example of controversy. The Prince is quite tame in the modern days but back in his time; he was indomitable.
The Doors
Everybody is aware of Jim Morrison’s bizarre deeds and how he got the title of Lizard King. Most of the tracks offered by this band were greatly poetic and dark at the same time revolving around the subject matter of murder and death. ‘The End’ is the most controversial track by this band with the lyrics like, “Father. Yes son? I want to kill you.” The Doors were asked to change the lyrics of the track ‘Girl we couldn’t get much higher’ at the Ed Sullivan Show but the band performed the original track only. It made them get kicked out of the show forever.
Madonna
The queen of pop became the epitome of controversies for the music video for ‘Like a Prayer’. In the video, the white girl was murdered by 3 men and one black man was wrongly accused. The video further showed burning crosses in the background with similarity to the KKK symbol. ‘Like a Prayer’ was also featured by Pepsi in a commercial but they took it off due to the controversies.
Michael Jackson
No Matter how much the King of Pop has influenced the world, the controversies still stay his name. Though it is still unknown what happened and whether it is true or not, Jackson has been accused of child abuse, not once but twice. He repeatedly told the media that is all lie and later on, he cumulated his response through the track ‘Scream’.
Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne is one of the popular rappers in the industry and also one of the most controversial ones. Other than his songs having explicit verses about money, sex, and objectification of women; the rapper has also been involved with criminal possession of a weapon. The incident got much attention from the media back in July 2007.
6ix9ine
The rainbow-haired wannabe gangster rapper 6ix9ine is perhaps the most controversial rapper in the industry with multiple criminal offenses regarding child sexual performance. He is the most hated rapper for nearly 2 years now. The ‘FEFE’ rapper has been in jail for a long time and even after his release, he continued to create more unpleasant tracks.
Travis Scott
Travis Scott has become more notorious for the incident at the Astroworld Festival that took place in his hometown, Houston. He is facing legal issues regarding the safety issues at his concert. The incident turned into a mass casualty during Scott’s performance and he didn’t bother to stop. Around 10 people died and hundreds of them got injured that day.
Eminem
The G.O.A.T of the hip-hop industry, Eminem has been part of many controversies, and perhaps that is what helped him to prove himself even better. In his early phase, the lyrics were quite haunting with murderous intent and killing her then-wife, Kim. The rapper has also been accused of making fun of other artists such as Michael Jackson, and Madonna, as well as politicians such as Sarah Palin, George Bush, and so on. Even with his drug abuse and controversial musical approach, the rap god has overcome everything and still remains in the industry as the G.O.A.T.
