A.R. Rahman says he takes other musicians copying his songs as flattery

A.R. Rahman

A.R. Rahman is one of the most popular and talented musicians not just in India but all over the world. The Oscar-winning singer-songwriter is well-respected in the musical community for his incredibly creative and original musical creations. His most iconic and popular songs made for the Indian music and film industry are ‘Jai Ho’, Mustafa Mustafa’, ‘Muqabla’, ‘Urvasi Urvasi’, ‘Masakali’, and many more. His music has been used and remixed by many musicians over the years. Recently A.R. Rahman talked about his thoughts and feeling about these remixes of his original creations.

When he was asked what he thought about musicians copying his music, he said that today people know about copying, even it’s just a beat or sound. There are many extremely smart people out there and they want to bring other down. He said that in the earlier days who copied his work, thought they could get away with the copying. He takes plagiarism as flattery. He said he does not want to waste his time by talking about those things behind people’s backs because other people take care of them. He has set his goal to only move forward improving himself along the way. He never lets negative things hold him back no matter what it is. He claimed there are a lot of things to do with music. And he asks people to not waste their time in hatred, greed, and jealousy. He says his mantra in music-making is that one must move forward to make new tunes, progression, rhythm, or story and never look back on the negative things.

A.R. Rahman has recently made headlines with his latest collaboration with rising singer Ananya Birla for the Olympic track, ‘Hindustani Way’. It is created as a tribute to the Indian athletes participating in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
