If you are an Indian music lover then you must have been well aware of the names Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy. On this 30th January 2024, this eminent music director celebrates his 54th birthday. Being a part of a well-elaborated music trio offering some of the most exceptionally efficient music, his life, and works have seamlessly accentuated the music and also have given a better finish through his amazing skill set and highly esteemed outcome. But in various cases, he has never shared the limelight as Shankar Mahadevan or partially Ehsaan Noorani has.

Loy has always stayed behind the curtain and offered his mastered form of art through brilliant musical ventures. He has composed over 50 Indian movie songs and has been a part of this extensive Indian music fraternity. Starting his composing career with Doordarshan, Loy has crossed a long way and is an eminent part of this brilliant music trio.   • Before Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy

Before becoming one of the most popular Indian music composers he was a prominent piano player working with some of the most highly-esteemed Indian music composers. He has worked with composers like Nadeem-Shravan and A.R. Rahman. He started his composing career with the iconic tune called ‘The World This Week’ Doordarshan. Apart from Piano he also plays instruments like electric guitar and bass guitar. During mid 80s Loy has been working as a writer in television. His first work was the Siddharth Basu show called, ‘Quiz Time’. Later on, he worked in Prannoy Roy’s show ‘The World This Week’. He also has worked in the musical forte for Shah Rukh Khan’s TV series called Fauji.

During an advertisement recording for Pepsi directed by Mukul Anand, Loy met Eshaan for the first time. Three of them Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy three of them met in the early 90s and their sheer love of Western music and music as a comprehensive entity has brought them together and the Indian film industry has gained one of their most popular musical trios. Since India loved their exceptional compositions in Mission Kashmir they became an eminent name in this industry. After that, they have given brilliant albums in movies like Lakshya, Dil Chahata, Kal Ho Na Ho, and many other movies. From doing jingles to bringing one of the most successful music composers in this industry, they have come a long way.

He has been a highly successful music composer since the late 90s his works are often known for being heartfelt and highly engaging. Whether it is his compositions for movies like ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ or upbeat tracks for ‘Bunty and Bubli’, he has mastered the ways of making songs beautiful through his seamless tastes. He also has been highly appreciated for his work in ‘Mission Kashmir’. Songs that he has composed have remained with every Bollywood music lover even after decades.   • 2 IIFAs – He received an IIFA for ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ in 2004. His next IIFA was for ‘Bunty and Bubli’ in 2006.
  • 3 Filmfare Awards – He received his first Filmfare in 2001 for the movie ‘Dil Chahata Hai’. In 2004 he received a Filmfare for ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ and another in 2006 for ‘Bunty and Bubli’.
  • 2 Star Screen Awards – in 2001 he received a Star Screen award for ‘Dil Chahata Hai’ and in 2006 he received another for ‘Bunty and Bubli’.
  • 1 Zee Cine Award – HE gained a Zee Cine Award in 2006 for ‘Bunty and Bubli’.
