This year, the BBC sound of 2022 has been named after PinkPantheress, a UK-based singer and songwriter.

She chose to keep her real name a secret, and also kept her face unknown in social media for the longest time, until recently. According to the singer, it was to protect her privacy. In a recent interview with the BBC, pinkpantheress said “I find it easier to not lay every single card on the table. I like my privacy and I felt like if I have my music out and my face everywhere, it would start getting too much for people.”

This track samples ‘Flowers’ by Sweet Female Attitude and is primarily focused on her past heartbreaking experience involving an ex-lover. Speaking about this in an interview with Apple Music, she said “In my early days on TikTok I was creating a song a day. Some of them got a good reception, but ‘Pain’ was the first one where people responded really well … A lot of people haven’t really heard garage that much before, and I think that for them, the sample is a very palatable way to ease into garage breakbeats.”

Besides ‘Pain’, another of her viral tracks is ‘Just For Me’. This single peaked at 27 on the UK Top 40 after being viral on TikTok. On the other hand, ‘Pain’ also got the spot of 35 on the same chart. ‘Just For Me’ also took the sample from ‘Obsessed With You’ by Central Cee.
Last January 2021, the TikTok star also posted 12-second clips of her music on her account which she utilized as a “focus group” so that she can choose songs to complete her full-length pop track.
Her other single ‘Break It Off’ also went viral on TikTok which led her to be signed to Parlophone records. Her debut mixtape ‘To Hell With It’ came out in 2022 that combined her bedroom composition and studio material. The album cover was heavily inspired by American Horror Story as she said “As a concept, I was just trying to go for like a dark murder house. American Horror Story, Tate Langdon, as a vibe”. Recently, she went viral again for her track ‘Boy’s a Liar‘ and her recent collaboration with Ice Spice for “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” earned both artists their first top 10 single on the Billboards chart.

From the information that is available on the internet, it can be said that the singer was born on 18th April 2001, making her just 22 years old. She has over 1.7M million followers on TikTok and 1.1 million followers on Instagram. Her mother is Kenyan and her father is English she moved to Kent in the South East with her family when she was a child.
As of today, the singer has not revealed anything about her dating life, so the knowledge of her currently having any romantic partner is not available.
