Donauinselfest is the biggest open-air music festival in Europe and millions of music lovers gather here every year to embrace their love for music. The festival takes place on an island in Vienna and perhaps it is the most iconic place to conduct a large-scale musical gig. The island is situated on the mighty Danube River, known as the Donauinsel Island that hosts the music fest. This year’s three-day event will be a treat for the visitors with most parts of the island being opened for all.
Any line-up details for 2022’s event?
There is no foreseeing in case of the line-up details yet. The organizers have not revealed anything yet since the first acts will be revealed soon this spring. SPÖ state party secretary Barbara Novak promised that 2022’s event will also contain “colorful program diversity” with the international music artists getting featured. The previous two events were not up to the mark due to the restricted line-up where only Austrian Bands and individual artists participated. However, this year is showing some promising aspects.
Review of the last two festivals during the pandemic
Matthias Friedrich is also the Managing Director for Team für Wien GmbH that takes the most responsibilities for the event. Friedrich said, “Two years in a row we have proven that the Danube Island Festival can also take place safely during the corona pandemic.” He further said that there will be an effect of the past two years since there will be a strict limit on the number of visitors. The three-day event will be held on only four stages on the island. However, it is still way better than the last year’s TV Event.
The director also said that the event is soon going to “return to the roots”. Not to mention but Covid-19 Advisory Board will be also present in the Donauinselfest 2022. The board will take any necessary corona measures depending on the situation.
The Donauinsel Island
Technically speaking, Donauinsel Island is around 21 kilometers long 250 meters wide which is also known as the Danube island. It is artificially built to maintain flood regulation measures. Does not sound that good right? However, the island offers a handful of fun activities for the visitors which makes it the best place to merry around. Serving the purpose of a recreational park, there are options for a hike, swim, trampoline, cycle, eat, drink, etc a huge range of recreational activities.
