The Weeknd is identified as a brand now. From his fashion sense to his elevated musical aura he is brilliant with his form of art. Each of his songs has relevant meaning and indulging tonal quality. Whatever he tries from his exquisite singles, mixtapes to this newly launched brilliant album of this week, he exceeds himself each time with flying colors. His music has made the world come to its knees and offer its utmost love for this immense talent. He has received several awards in his musical journey. and have received an incredible amount of respect and admiration that he received for his music.
Beginning of ‘The Weeknd’
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye was born on February 16, 1990, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was an only child of their parents. But as they got separated he started to live with his grandmother and mother in Scarborough since he was only six. He started smoking marijuana when he was just eleven and later on he used several drugs. In 2007 he dropped out of his school and moved to Parkdale, Toronto. In August 2009 he started uploading anonymously on YouTube. On the next year, he met Jeremy Rose a producer who produced three of the songs sung by Tesfaye. In December 2010 he released those songs, ‘What You Need’, ‘Loft Music’, and ‘The Morning’ on YouTube with the name ‘xoxxxoooxo’. These songs were mentioned in a blog post from Drake and respectively received coverage from several major media.
The path towards ‘The Weeknd’
In 2011, he co-founded the XO record label with Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby and Amir ‘Cash’ Esmailian and along with Taylor. On 21st March, Tesfaye released his debut mixtape ‘House of Balloons’, which was appreciated by a huge number of people. These were shortlisted nominees for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize. On August 18th, he released his second mixtape ‘Thursday’ which received generally positive reviews from everyone. His third mixtape, ‘Echoes of Silence’ was released on 21st December. This mixtape was also met with critical acclaim. In July 2011, he held his first tour and also his first live performance at the Mod Club Theatre. After this performance, Drake met Tesfaye for future collaboration. And Tesfaye was landed with several Drake’s shows and also contributed to four songs of Drake’s ‘Take Care’ and a featured artist in ‘Crew Love’
The Weeknd
In April 2012 Tesfaye began his first international tour, including a performance in Bowery Ballroom in New York City. This received positive appreciation. His performances are Spain and Portugal have made his path smoother. Later on, in September he signed with Republic Records. On 13th November 2012, he released a Trilogy with remixed and reexamined versions of his previous tracks with additional three songs. This trilogy took him to rank four of the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 86,000 copies. And this took him to the platinum club and double platinum as well. And his ‘Kiss Land’ also received proclaiming positive remarks from overseas. And later on, he added three singles to this album, ‘Belong to the world’, ‘Love in the sky’, and ‘Live for’ featuring Drake. And since then there was no looking back for him.

His R&B single ‘Earned It’ from the film Fifty Shades of Grey has won him a Grammy and was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. He also contributed to the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: catching Fire in the songs ‘Devil May Cry’, ‘Elastic Heart’, along with Sia and Diplo. In 2014 Tesfaye remixed Beyonce’s single ‘Drunk in Love’. He collaborated with Ariana Grande in ‘Love Me Harder’. Later on, he released ‘My Dear Melancholy’ in 2018 and later on in 2020 ‘After Hours’. And his latest released album ‘Down FM’ has been appreciated vastly. Jim Carrey has recited in this album. This album has several brilliant songs that include, ‘Less Than Zero’, ‘Take My Breath’, ‘Gasoline’, ‘and Sacrifice, ’‘I heard you’re married’, ‘Gasoline’.
He is a great singer and songwriter who has delivered some incredible songs throughout his journey. He is supremely well arranged with his musical form. The genre has gained a brilliant singer since his debut. His life has matured his form of music. And will have an extensive musical journey ahead. His music is grooving and his narration has always been concrete and constructive. His initial songs did not have a lot of raps. He included Rapping style along the way and mastered the art with complete dedication. He is overly talented and his journey will inspire generations of musicians who have nothing else but eyes full of dreams. He is honest he is hard working, his charismatic aura has gripped much attention and his songs have been enjoyed thoroughly by the world. The sweetness of his voice adds up the flavor of joy to his songs. The honesty of his storytelling is also very addictive.
