DMR: What kind of music genre do you represent?

Ben Ruppel: Dance

DMR: Which artists inspire you the most?

Ben Ruppel: I’m inspired by old friends who make music primarily as I keep up with them on social media and listen to tracks they are working on. It’s always exciting hearing new stuff from them. I’m also inspired by artists I’ve never met before such as famous acts and the projects that come out of that group of people, which is mostly how I find new music. I’m always happy to hear new music but often find myself sticking with my tried and true favorites.

DMR: Where do you originally hail from and where are you based now?

Ben Ruppel: I grew up basically in the middle of nowhere in a town called La Crosse, Wisconsin, but moved to Orange, California at age 19.

DMR: What influences got you into making music professionally?

Ben Ruppel: I had a friend who introduced me to his Soundcloud page of music and I tried DJing myself, eventually I got into making my own music and posting it online in various places.

DMR: How would you describe your soundscape, music, and arrangement styles?

Ben Ruppel: I try my best to stay with a formulaic pattern of tracks/songs, but I often find myself doing something completely different from that. As a musician, repetition is both a blessing and a curse. Getting tied down into any one thing, even genre-wise, bothers me too.

DMR: Do music videos hold any importance in the creative enhancement of music?

Ben Ruppel: Definitely, I don’t make them really, but some people have gotten huge from them. I try to incorporate video into my creative life as much as I can.

DMR: Do you have any upcoming plans for new content?

Ben Ruppel: Yes, I’m always working on new things, and am planning on continuing to release the things I create threw the internet, particularly on YouTube.

DMR: Do you have any notes of suggestions to give to the upcoming lot of musicians?

Ben Ruppel: Try your best, people can tell when you do.
