Robert Rene

DMR: Congratulations on the release of ‘Save My Heart’!What are your personal views on the track?

Robert Rene: First off, thank you so much for having me and for the congratulations. I appreciate it very much. I think this track shows a different side of Robert Rene. It has a dark, sexy and provocative vibe compared to any other track I’ve put out. I also think the track shows my versatility as an artist and where my music can go in the future.

DMR: As the song is appearing on your first album ‘The Trilogy’, please tell us more about the album.

Robert Rene: This album is all about playing off of characters or situations in my life. It’s about taking different perspectives and playing different roles to create music with different scenarios. Although the songs come from personal experiences and viewpoints, the experiences and characters being portrayed are not necessarily mine or a representation of my own character. I find it fun to take on other’s roles and have my fans guessing who the song is really about.

DMR: Starting from ‘Sweetwater’ to ‘Nemesis’, each of your songs has a powerful energy. Tell us something about the process of crafting these masterpieces.

Robert Rene: I always start off with some sort of concept/song in mind, when going into the studio. Whether it’s a scenario of my own or someone else’s, it always comes from some sort of personal experience. From that, my producer and I bounce ideas off each other. My biggest challenge is getting the lyrics out, but my producer is so good with getting them out of me emotionally, that by the end of our studio sessions I’m pretty drained. I feel that without investing in the lyrics emotionally, the power and energy would not exist and wouldn’t resonate with my listeners. Getting to that point is very vulnerable and exhausting, but it’s always worth it in the end.

DMR: Other than singing, you are also a great dancer and choreographer. Does it help you in making music?

Robert Rene: Music and dance go hand in hand for me. As a dancer/choreographer, music has to move me to get inspired. So I use that same process. I try to create music that inspires me to move and create, and if it doesn’t, I have to go back to the drawing board. It’s all about getting people to move and feel something, and if I don’t feel it, my listeners won’t feel it either; it would be very unauthentic.

DMR: When did you first develop your passion for dance and music?

Robert Rene: At a very young age, I always remember my dad playing music in the apartment. He would play everything from Metallica, Run DMC, to Toni Braxton, and that was usually during the same day. His taste for music was very eclectic, and I was able to develop that same taste of music and embrace all genres. I also remember making up dances to artists like Salt-N- Pepa, Young Mc, Paula Abdul, and my favorite, Janet Jackson, at a very young age. This was all before I started taking dance and before I even knew what choreography was.

For a long time, I just focused on dance as my passion and career, but it wasn’t until these past few years where I found a new passion in putting them both together, creating music I wanted to dance to.

It took me awhile and a lot of confidence and soul searching to go after connecting them, but now that I have, I look forward to where both will lead me, and I’ve truly never been happier.

DMR: Name some of the creative influences who inspired you the most.

Robert Rene: Captivating and dynamic performers like Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Paula Abdul have all played a huge role in why I dance and love performing. I love the rigor that is put into their performances; the amount of blood, sweat, energy and tears that go into their rehearsing and performances is so inspiring to me. It’s not even about vocal abilities. It is about their command of the stage, the passion, the preparedness and their ability to entertain an audience  draws me in and pushes me to be the best artist I can be. I aspire to be like those legends.

DMR: How was your experience working with Disney Entertainment?

Robert Rene: Disney was always great to me. I was blessed to do so many parades, stage shows and even had the opportunity to create and choreograph for the resort. They made me into the performer I am today. They taught me the concept of always being “full out,” being prepared and not burning bridges. I learned all my performing abilities and realized my love for performing while I was at Disney. They were a huge stepping stone to getting me where I am today.

DMR: Tell us something about your album ‘Last One Standing’.

Robert Rene: I think this song is my favorite of all the songs we created. When we wrote this single, the song I had in mind is one of my favorites, “Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now” by Jefferson Starship. There’s even a repeat of a couple of their lyrics in the song. It’s about love overcoming all obstacles and can really be geared toward anybody pushing through hardships or struggles in their lives.

DMR: With your contagious styles of EDM, do you wish to experiment with other musical genres in the future?

Robert Rene: Like I mentioned before, I love all types of music, so I’m open to dabble in everything; but I know the genre and vibe have to feel right in the moment of creation in order for it to work. So, my team and I will continue to be open to any possibility and just see where the road leads us. But as the saying goes; “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

DMR: Whose name comes to your mind as a ‘Dream Collaboration’?

Robert Rene: Janet Jackson would be the ultimate dream. The amount of inspiration she has had on my career and life would be the ultimate full circle moment. Janet, I’m waiting for your call!

DMR: Is there any upcoming musical project that listeners should be expecting?

Robert Rene: I’m currently working with my team on coming up with new music and preparing for my first live performance at the OC Pride festival on June 24th in Santa Ana, California!

DMR: What would you like to tell your fans?

Robert Rene: What you’ve seen from me so far is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much more to come from Robert Rene, and I hope you will all continue to follow me in this amazing journey; we’re just getting started!
