Music lovers often find a therapeutic outlet in heavy metal, and Alex Haines is one of those songwriters who takes the genre to a higher level with her creativity and musical genius. She is the voice of metal rising from New York City, who has delivered a masterclass in self-expression with her album The Instrumental Sessions. Each track is built to give listeners an absolutely memorable experience, and it captures the grit and fire that shaped her songwriting. Alex’s talent is impeccable, and so are her songwriting skills, which were born from struggle and molded by resilience. It’s no wonder that, in spite of being a singer first and foremost, she has chosen to release an album that showcases the richness of her songwriting without her vocals.
Comprising 14 tracks in total, every song on The Instrumental Sessions reveals how passionate Alex is about her craft and how seriously she takes music. Her compositions are complex and layered with rich sonic energy. Listeners are loving the grace of both metal and classical tonalities. The songs are composed in a way that allow them to carry her voice and its essence without any words.
Even absent her vocals, Alex’s presence fills the record. The rise and the tension of each melody are portrayed beautifully. Upon listening to the album only once, Alex’s audience falls in love with her ability to convey emotions through her utilization of intense drum patterns, soaring guitar solos, and complex string sections. Alex Haines has made the kind of album that invites the listener to imagine the words, and to feel the emotion behind each chord. At the same time, this album is also a preview: three of these tracks will feature in Alex’s upcoming EP, The Rain on Your Parade—including the first single, Sweet Strawberry. This album is scheduled to drop at the end of 2025! Listen to Alex Haines on Spotify and Apple Music, and follow her on social media for more updates.
