Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner of Big Red Machine recently announced the release of their second studio album. The album which they named ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ is set to hit the stands on August 27 through Jagjaguwar/37d03d. The album will feature collaborations with artists such as Taylor Swift, Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes, Sharon Van Etten among others. Taylor has previously worked with both Vernon and Dessner in her two previous albums. Big Red Machine came out with their new single, ‘Latter Days’ featuring Anaïs Mitchell.

In a statement, Dessner shared that, “It was clear to Anaïs that the early sketch Justin and I made of ‘Latter Days’ was about childhood, or loss of innocence and nostalgia for a time before you’ve grown into adulthood—before you’ve hurt people or lost people and made mistakes. She defined the whole record when she sang that, as these same themes kept appearing again and again.”

Taylor Swift collaborates in the upcoming ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ album for the songs ‘Renegade’ and ‘Birch’. As per press releases, they recorded ‘Renegade’ at Swift’s Kitty Committee Studio in Los Angeles in March 2021. Coincidentally, it was the same week that Dessner and Swift shared their 2021 Album of the year Grammy Award for the album, Folklore. The song ‘Renegade’ will also see orchestration by Bryce who is Dessner’s twin brother.

The duo has been teaming up with various artists since the release of Big Red Machine back in 2018. One of their most popular collaborations includes the one with Michael Stipe of the R.E.M. where they did the track ‘No Time for Love Like Now’. They also covered the song, ‘Wise Up’ by Aimee Mann among other tracks. Bon Iver released a new song last summer called ‘AUATC’ which featured artists such as Jenny Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, and Jenn Wasner.

The upcoming album will consist of 15 songs and will present a captivating mix of new artists. All artists put in their individualistic ideas and styles in each of the songs enriching the album to a whole another level. Combining new structures and production arrangements, Big Red Machine is presenting a wide arena of musical diversity through their wisdom, knowledge, and introspection. Mark your dates for August 27 to experience yet another creative and musical milestone in modern history. The album will surely set new records and heights with its engraved musical excellence.
