Luke Bryan offered some constructive criticism to the American Idol contestant Tristen Gressett and got booed immediately by the live audience on Sunday.
American Idol Season 20 has already offered the audience some of the most chart-busting performances and the Tristen Gressett took things a notch higher. However, Luke Bryan got booed by the audience after offering constructive criticism.
On Sunday, April 27, contestant Tristen Gressett offered a highly energetic performance with a unique rendition of Weekend’s hit track ‘Sacrifice’. The performance received much praise from the judges but Luke Bryan offered some criticism.
The global Idol viewers and live audience have supported Tristen which could earn him the spot in the top 14 Idols across the nation.
As soon as Tristen’s performance ended, Lionel Richie shouted “Love It!” and all the live audience would agree with him.
Luke Bryan said, “My man was just born to be on the stage ladies and gentlemen,”. He further continued, “I think in your audition we tried to put the reins on you, but you know what? You just broke through the reins and said ‘hell with it, I’m not listening to them, I’m gonna be me.’ And I love the energy you put out.”
The positive messages were followed by constructive criticism and the live audience didn’t take it well. As soon as Bryan started, the audience booed at him.
He said, Now, it’s not that your vocals were bad, but y’all ain’t heard him as I’ve heard him,” however, Katy Perry wittily responded, “I appreciate that he rolled the dice.”
Bryan tried to justify himself and said, “Right, but what I’m saying is that song might’ve put you in a little box vocally, and always make sure we hear those vocals”; however, he quickly withdrew saying, “Anyway, I’m talking a lot to try and climb myself out of a hole and it’s not working.”
The country star later joked, “I can already see the comments on socials.”
Lionel Richie said, “We have hostility in the room tonight,” and continued, “But that hostility is passion.” He praised Tristen saying, “Remember I told you to take yourself serious? Well, you did it. You’re acting like an artist. I can’t keep my eyes off of you. I don’t know what you’re going to do next. The dynamics of your presentation is incredible! I love what you’re doing.”
Even Katy Perry compared him to Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, Jack Nicholson in The Shining; like he was the star of the night.
Tristen Gressett is among the top 20 contestants who are competing to get their spot in the top 14.
