On the eve of 10th June, Saturday, the iconic Joni Mitchell returned to the stage after a long break of 20 years. This was her first official ticketed headline concert in the past 2 decades. Last year she gave a surprise performance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival. But on Saturday she was on stage for over 3 hours and the crowd went gaga as Joni jams some of her iconic tracks at the sprawling Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Washington. There were numerous guest performances such as Annie Lennox, Blake Mills, Lucius, Sarah McLachlan, Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and others. Social media was flooded with her videos with her on stage playing as the time hasn’t skipped a single bit.

Brandi Carlile is the one who opened the show and also is the one to perform alongside Mitchell. Brandi acted as the host and emcee for the night. Several media houses have righteously designated the show as Mitchell and the “Joni Jammers”. And they performed some of the amusing from her music catalog. Her performance list included numbers like ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘Night Ride Home’, ‘Raised on Robbery’, ‘Sex Kills’, ‘A Case of You’, ‘Both Sides Now’, and several more numbers from her catalog.

Apart from her catalog she also played some of the classic releases like ‘Summertime’ by Porgy and Bess, ‘Love Potion No. 9’ by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers’, ‘Why Do Fools Fall in Love?’ and ‘Young at Heart’ by Frank Sinatra. And the incredible Joni Jammers took their turns to share the vocals with her electrifying performances and some of her most beloved numbers.

Last year she also received an honorary doctorate degree from the Berklee College of Music. On the venue Berklee president Erica Muhl referred to her as “a force for change in the industry, blazing the trail for women in music with an unwavering commitment to achieving the status rightfully due her as one of the world’s great musical artists” at the accolade ceremony. She recently has been awarded the 2023 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. And on July 28th she is going to release a new live album called, “Joni Mitchell at Newport”. This is a compilation of her performance at the Newport Festival.
