United By Music: Eurovision Song Contest 2023, Liverpool: Schedule

From the TV schedule and opening ceremony to the semi-final and grand final; Eurovision 2023, Liverpool just kicked off with a bang. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Due to the victory of Kalush Orchestra in Turin, technically instead of Liverpool, this year’s Eurovision Song Contest was to take place in Ukraine. But due Russian invasion Liverpool is the next best choice. And on May 7th, Sunday the opening ceremony was initiated. And on the 8th of May, the television coverage will be telecast on BBC. On Monday, Rylan Clark and Sunetra Sarker will present highlights from the launch event. The show will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Joel Dommett. The television program is called Eurovision Welcomes the World at 6:30 pm on BBC One and iPlayer. And three different live TV shows will be hosted by Julia Sanina, Graham Norton, Hannah Waddingham, and Alesha Dixon.

On 9th May 2023, there will be first semi-final will take place and on the 11th of May second semi-final will take place. The ceremony will end with the grand final on 13th May 2023. For this event, Liverpool has transformed from its industrial past and become one of Britain’s dynamically thriving cultural hubs. Despite its metropolitan areas, this is still the birthplace and ‘home’ of The Beatles. UNESCO has declared Liverpool as the city of music; hence it has two Premier League football clubs, Everton F.C., and Liverpool F.C.

On Sunday as the event welcomed its guest with a lot of music and a vibrant Turquoise Carpet, Rylan and Sunetra spent a long time backstage to see all the final Eurovision preparations. Then at 9 at night, Jason Manford and Chelcee Grimes presented Eurovision Calling: Jason and Chelcee’s Ultimate Guide. Even after the show was inaugurated already, yet everyone’s eyes are on the upcoming performances and obviously on the grand final.

Though, the United Kingdom is hosting Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine, after Kalush Orchestra’s powerful performance titled ‘Voices of a New Generation’. Amongst the performers, there will be some of the past iconic Ukrainian Eurovision contestants. Britain’s very own spaceman Sam Ryder will return to the Eurovision stage. Before “The Liverpool Songbook” get to him and start celebrating Liverpool’s contributions to the world and especially pop music.
